"A study published in December 2009 in the International Journal of Biological Sciences found that three varieties of Monsanto genetically-modified corn caused damage to the liver, kidneys, and other organs of rats. One of the corn varieties was designed to tolerate broad-spectrum herbicides, (so-called 'Roundup-ready' corn), while the other two contain bacteria-derived proteins that have insecticide properties. The study made use of Monsanto's own raw data. Quoting from the study's 'Conclusions' section: 'Our analysis highlights that the kidneys and liver as particularly important on which to focus such research as there was a clear negative impact on the function of these organs in rats consuming GM maize varieties for just 90 days.' Given the very high prevalence of corn in processed foods, this could be a real ticking time bomb. And with food manufacturers not being required by law to declare GMO content, I think I'll do my best to avoid corn altogether. Pass the puffed rice and pour me a glass of fizzy water!"
It's been going on for years and years and no one cares.
I was looking forward to GM tecnology taking the poisons out of wheat, barley and rye.
This is a joke, right?
After all, the GM corn is fed to millions, no tens of millions, no, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of poultry and livestock every year.
Where are the sick animals?
Shouldn't they be falling dead from failing organs? They are on this corn for way more than 90 days.
Especially the pigs, which are closest to humans?
Cool, I hate rats.
Most if these articles are examples of how the world maintains unjustified trade barriers against American crops.
I would love to travel internationally and intersperse gm seed into fields abroad.
Someday we will let the hungry eat and the enviro radicals starve.
A Bad Gut Feeling
GM industry representatives falsely claim that when you eat a genetically modified food, the DNA is destroyed by digestion.
Researchers have now proven this is false.
British researchers demonstrated that GM DNA from crops can find its way into human gut bacteria, creating health risks. The concern is that the antibiotic marker genes inserted with the GM material could cause a person to be resistant to antibiotic medicines.[iii]
The study by Newcastle University in the UK was conducted on 7 human volunteers who, in the past, had their lower intestines removed and now use colostomy bags. After eating a meal containing GM soy, researchers were surprised to find that a relatively large proportion of GM DNA survived the digestive process.
In 3 of the 7 volunteers, they found bacteria had taken up the herbicide-resistant gene from the GM food at a very low level.
And this was after only one GM meal.
Not only that, but researchers also found Roundup ready gut bacteria from past GM soybean consumption. This was NOT from the current experimentit was evidence that similar gene transfer had occurred in the past, from prior consumption of GM Roundup ready soy. (Roundup ready is the term used to mean soy that was engineered to be resistant to the herbicide Roundup.)
Michael Antonio, a senior lecturer in molecular genetics at Kings College Medical School in London, said this study was significant because the researchers demonstrated that you can get GM plant DNA in your gut bacteria, which was previously considered impossible.
This is the first clear evidence that antibiotic marker genes can jump to the bacteria in your stomach and increase your risk for an antibiotic-resistant infection.
Interesting if true. Of course this would mean that your gut bacteria can take up DNA from everything that you eat and have been for hundreds of thousands of years. The same would happen in animals. Of course it doesnt mean that the genes taken up would be expressed in the gut bacteria since animals, plants and bacteria have very different expression systems.
First it is true. Also, Agrobacterium which is one of the building blocks has been now been proven to make the cross-kingdom jump, one of the only things on earth that has been, it’s now as happy to grow in plants as in man. Remember, these aren’t just “genes” this are bio-engineered rhizobacteria such as Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, and probably the most concerning, Bt. These things form crystals when they hit the gut acid and thus kill insects, they make terrible forms of pesticides, the plants are literally pesticides themselves. To show you how far this has gone google plants and plastic, soon they will be growing plants that are full of plastic, they grow plastic, thanks to Pseudomonas putida and other things.
But remember, these things are made by chance, they are fired at extremely high speeds (they used to use .22 calibur bullets) to cause a tremendous impact with the corn, this causes thousands of mutations and then they douse the concoction with a special anti-biotic that the GMO creation they made is resistant too and whatever survives is the product, no two batches of GMO corn are alike, even if they intend them to be, each batch has to go through testing (a sham).
GMO production is 40 to 50 years beyond most people realize, it’s totally unregulated, out of control, and harmful to man. Not only that, but there are several studies now that have proven the GMO crops produce less yeild than natural ones, the university of Iowa just proved that beyond questions, it’s all about one company, owning every seed that is planted, GMO crops self terminate, you cannot grow next years crop from this years, you rebuy next years frankenfood ...

A couple of interesting things:
1. The genes were only found in patients who had ileostomys, not those in normal patients.
2. The genes in the gut bacteria we NOT GMO genes, rather those naturally present in the plant.
3. If you read the abstract, the authors conclude that there was NO GENE TRANSFER FROM THE GMO.
Interesting, are you in the BIO field because you have to pay to access those articles, it’s surprising you would have access to them?
Can you posts some comments from those PDF’s proving that what you are saying is true, I am truly interested.
