Reasons to be fearful: Democrats face triple whammy for elections
The London Times ^ | December 26, 2009 | Charlie Cook

Posted on 12/25/2009 6:34:17 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

One might expect Democrats to be euphoric during this holiday season. After recapturing control of Congress in 2006, and last year taking back the White House by electing America's first African-American president, Democrats are now on the verge of passing a historic health care reform law. But instead of celebrating, they are bitterly divided. Former Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean and liberal bloggers are urging the Senate to defeat the health care bill. Many are criticizing President Barack Obama for compromising too much, saying the proposal doesn't go far enough, while more moderate and conservative Democrats are petrified the bill and the President's agenda are too ambitious and will cost them re-election next year. Polls show that while a majority of Americans favour some form of health care reform, most oppose the current Democratic proposals.

The controversy over health care reform isn't the beginning or the end of the problems facing President Obama and Democrats who increasingly fear that in next November's midterm elections their 60-40 advantage in the Senate could be significantly diminished and they could lose outright control of the House of Representatives. In the last six weeks, four Democratic House members in swing districts have announced their retirements, putting their seats in grave danger. A fifth, newly-elected last year with $1,000,000 of party support, just announced he is changing parties, becoming a Republican. This honeymoon cruise with Barack Obama as President has hardly been smooth sailing.

While President Obama's overall poll numbers aren't good, they aren't terrible either. More ominous for Democrats is the beating their party in Congress has taken this year.(continued)

Good point.

Thomas Sowell wrote in one of his recent columns how it is impossible for government to “create” jobs. The government can only redirect money (and take a cut) thereby hurt the economy and the natural free market efficient distribution of resources. It is pretty simple economics.

The media will continue to prop up this disaster until the very end. The two staples of any media report have become “he inherited a very bad situation” and “many say that the criticisms are racially motivated”. With only a grain of truth to either, they become indisputable canards of the left.

I have some email buddies in the UK. They are under the impression that BHO is solidly popular and enjoys broad support. Their perceptions are shaped by our propaganda press. One was absolutely shocked when I sent him links about the tea parties, gun sales and unemployment stats.

Anyway, they are being lied to about us like the Pravda used to lie about that other Communist superpower.

You know how it is with Lefties. They always set the bar lower for themselves than for their political opposition, and change it as they go, so that they can claim 'success'. Like: 5% unemployment under George Bush: terrible! 10% unemployment under Bozo: NOT terrible. $300 billion dollar deficit under Bush: TERRIBLE!!! $1.4 trillion dollar deficit under Zero" NOT terrible. Republicans: Keep the economic recovery going and protect US interests and freedoms: TERRIBLE!!!!! Democrats: Plunge the US into a recession/depression and compromise US interests and freedoms in every way: NOT Terrible. And so on and so forth... This sort of hypocrisy and corruption is the soul of Leftism.

I understand what you are saying, but it's still like saying being stupid is better than being retarded. We all rightfully balked at President Clinton overseeing a trillion dollar budget, but then Bush broke that record numerous times. All we did was go from dumb to dumber. If the GOP had stood for what the base believes, we'd be in no mess at all. Instead, we made excuses for Bush when we should have stood up and demanded better. It's now time to purge the losers out of our party or start a new one. Never again should we hold our noses to vote! We demand small-government on all fronts or we deserve Obama. But, when faced with Democrats or fence straddlers, the American middle will pick authenticity. It's up to us on the right to demand we return to the original intent of the founding fathers; anything after the thirteenth amendment needs to be repealed.

Historians may some day praise Mr Obama's vision and bold ambitions

What is he talking about? The historians are already singing the praises of Obama.

But then almost all of them are socialist Democrats.

Agreed. Conservatives accepted a couple of wooden nickels with the Bush family. Reagan’s greatest political mistake was keeping Bush in for the second term.

“...It is time the American Public found out what a snack pit Washington has become..”

I think it’s becoming known. The problem is that most of them like it, even worse, believe it when they are told they like it. And as this drags on, I belive Congress will be portrayed as really earning its pay by fighting the evil throwback Republicans so stridently for the poor working citizen. Of course, it may take until 2019 for the benefits to be worked out so we’ll just have to to take one, two, three, or eleven for the team until then.

“The government can only redirect money (and take a cut)”

Health care up front costs are definitely a cut. What would happen were it to go into effect and folks find out that the money’s already gone?

One of those Clintoon save the world from Christians high-level bombing wars paid for with Soc Security money?

Obama’s in way over his head and doesn’t have enough sense to realize it.

Anyone thinking the Democrats involved in this care one second about future elections has no idea what we are up against. This is about Communism and their belief it is now or never.

We can't be fearful, we have to be brave and courageous! We must stand up to tyranny, we must do all we can as citizens to resist the takeover of our liberty! As free men, we must fight. !Today! is what we must fight as outlined in our history. Americans who value freedom and our founding, have to fight, we have to be brave, we MUST fight the fight. Don't give up. It's in our DNA and congress can't stop it. No matter what bills they pass. Don't give up patriots, freedom is hard work, and we're just beginning. Resist it all, BE BRAVE!

I'LL NEVER GIVE UP MY FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Democrats will remain in power for the next 40 years. The general populace in sufficient numbers is stupid enough to let them “say” they won the elections. It’s not the number of votes, I believe Stalin said, but WHO counts them that matters. And right now, the Democrats will be counting them.
