Bolling Urges Warner and Webb to Not Support Health Care Reform

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling sent a strongly worded letter to Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner Monday expressing outrage over special concessions given to certain states to obtain support for federal health care legislation from their Senators and asking them to oppose this legislation, which Bolling called “misguided.”

“As you know, one of our major concerns with this legislation is the potential impact it could have on the cost of Medicaid for Virginia’s state government,” wrote Bolling. “Many reports have suggested that this legislation could result in much higher Medicaid costs for state governments across the nation, costs that state governments simply cannot bear.”

In his letter, Bolling cited reports from this past weekend that the Senate’s Democratic leadership had made concessions to Senator Ben Nelson that would hold his home state of Nebraska harmless for any additional Medicaid costs that might come about as a result of the enrollment of new Medicaid recipients after 2017, while all 49 other states would be required to pay a portion of the increased costs. This reportedly would save Nebraska $45M per year, while passing these costs on to other states.

Webb and Warner are already onboard. I suspect this letter was written more for consumption by Virginia voters than anything else.

Sounds to me like he found out too late that his senators sold their votes too cheaply.

Especially when the Federal tab is only divided 49 ways...making this what has to be the most immoral, unethical and unconstitutional piece of shit ever conceived by the biggest criminals of even this usually corrupt posse of a$$ clowns that the US has elected to this besotted band of morons with legislative power since it's inception...

The 17th Amendment was the death knell for the Republic.

They just voted to stop debate on the bill. They still have to vote on passage of the bill.

This highlights the BIG LIE with respect to CBO budget scoring on this bill. The CBO, nor any other government accounting office, calculates or accounts for the increased medicare costs to the states and how those costs will undoubtedly bust their budgets.

This bill takes unfunded mandate to a whole other level.

all 50 state governors should be DEMANDING that their democrat whore senators stop giving away their votes to Axelrod/Emmanuel Inc for free, and get their states some of the pie that was served to Ben, Mary and Bernie

Ditto with those democrat congressmen.

I’ve been heavily involved in plannig Christmas for the family. can someone please fill me in on what is currently happenning with this bill? I just need cliff’s notes. I was unaware of the 1:00 a.m. vote til this morning. What did they actually vote on, and what exactly are they voting on later in the week? I thought it was a done deal.I’ve been trying to keep up (not very well I guess) but Christmas in this house doesn’t happen, unless I make it happen! Thanks in advance for filling me in! :)

I thought we were going to get “change”....back room deals and taking actions in the middle of the night are business as usual in Chicago.

They voted to stop debate. The Senate vote on passage of the bill is supposed to take place on Christmas Eve. Then they punt it back to the House where Nancy has to decide if they will just vote on the Senate bill or send it a conference committee to iron out the differences and then the final vote. I think that pretty much meets the definition of Cliff’s notes. ;^)

Webb will almost certainly vote NO at the next vote—the one that does not matter a bit.

El Rushbo had an interesting thought.

Dem Senators who need the "cover" will deceptively not endorse it, and let it pass via reconciliation.

This way, the alleged "moderate" Dems can claim they opposed it in their own elections; when all the while, this was a backroom deal to fool their constits.

While this is a possibility, I suspect that it is also possible that some Corleone-style "persuasion" might offer some inducement to just vote for it, and avoid the view from beneath the bus.
