Poll: Is it time to pass a 28th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution?
Examiner.com ^ | Dec. 7, 2009 | Réne Girard

Posted on 12/07/2009 6:58:18 AM PST by RGirard

The Constitution of the United States is the most important document in United States history following The Declaration of Independence. It was signed September 17, 1787 by George Washington, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin ... with "the Unanimous Consent of the States" ... The Constitution establishes the legislative powers that govern our nation via Congress "which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." ...

Just two years later in 1789 the Bill of Rights was established "in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers" by adding ten (10) Amendments to the Constitution. Over the next 200+ years ... a grand total of twenty-seven (27) Amendments. ...

Now there is a new idea circulating amongst U.S. citizens on the internet: A 28th Amendment to the Constitution. It has sprung out of a very real need for the politicians in Washington D.C. to have the same rights and privileges as the people they represent. No more and no less...

AMENDMENT XXVIII "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to United States Senators and those of the House of Representatives; likewise, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

How This Concept could be Applied: In relation to such controversial topics as Government-run health care, we need not fear that our elected officials will pass into law that which they themselves have not approved out of due diligence for themselves and their loved ones...

Sticking to our Principals: If we still operate under the principals of our Declaration of Independence and believe "that all men are created equal, ...

If I understand this correctly, to do this will require opening up the Constitution to all manner of assaults in addition to the amendment proposed here. Any Constitutional scholars who know for sure?

FReeped, but voted “undecided.” As the Founders said, trifling with the Constitution with the Amendment process should be complicated and requires immense attention to details. The way these snakes in DC work, I wouldn’t trust them to write anything that goes against their power.

I’d be on board if it repealed the 16th, 17th, and 19th amendments. Maybe a couple others or provisions of others. Parts of the 14th are bad or useless.

They don’t adhere to the rest of the constitution. Why should they adhere to this one?

Remember the “ignorance of the law is no excuse” mantra? Well, who could know the 50 billion laws these idiots pass? Time to make Congress part time, like they were in the beginning” and re-establish the Republic the way it was designed.

This would just let Obama rewrite whatever he likes, only do this when he and the Dems are safely out of office.

I think that's the problem.

What we do need is term limits. The idea that the Prez can go to congress (like Obama is doing) and tell them either fall in line or you won't get any party money for re-election. An incumbant has an advantage. Have to do away with it.

What this says is what is supposed to exist already. With the clear language of the 1st and 2nd amendments already ignored or “clarified” by lawyers, why do you think another amendment that states what is already supposed to be will have the effect you desire?

The several states created it, and now it’s time for the several states to kill the beast on the Potomac. (That would mean I want the states to nullify the Federal government’s power through their state legislatures. The FBI is watching.)

How about this for the 29th Amendment: No Person whether US Citizen or not may serve more that 12 years cumulative within a lifetime in ANY elective or appointed Office.

Nothing is being "opened up." Congress sits as a continuous Constitutional Convention. Any Monday morning at noon, the House and Senate can, by a two-thirds vote of each body, propose any amendment they choose. The only restraint, an effective restraint, is that nothing proposed by Congress has any affect unless three-fourths of the states concurs with that proposal.

I doubt the founding fathers would have thought that a time would come where career politicians would create laws that they were exclused from, or create a situation where they could vote their own raises and have a ‘free press’ act as a state sponsored press agency.

Everything they set up, was designed with the system of “Checks and Balances”; this has been upsurped by a Supreme Court that drafts laws fromw whole cloth, a Press that is free to criticize the Gov’t, yet choses to act as a biased propaganda outlet. Politicians who were thought to be a ‘part time job’, where a man would serve one term as a duty to his country, then return home to his family; now we have Congressmen who have never held an actual job.

We are in a bizarre world, where traitors have spent decades, with great care, slowly setting up bills, laws and executive orders that have created a situation where they can topple our great country. Was each man evil and complicit? I don’t know. Were they corrupt, and willing to pass laws that could later be used to destroy the country later down the line - but willing to enslave our children for their benefit today? Absolutely.

To the casual observer, and to our forefathers; the words put forth in this admendment were just common sense. They were under the assumption that ‘All men were created equal’ meant that no Congressman was more equal than the most humble man of meager means. This is not the situation today.

Term limits for Congressmen would be a better amendment.

The founding fathers would be astounded that Congress is in session round the calendar. They put a provision into the Constitution that says they have to meet at least once a year. They were afraid Congress would never meet.

The current congress is criminal. It is infested with powerlusting busybodies and communists that want to control every aspect of human life. That’s a far cry from Congress’ enumerated responsibilites in Article 1, section 8.

I'd rather have an amendment enforcing term limits, then we no longer have a ruling class that puts themselves above the law

Well, what is so complicated about the 10th Amendment which gives the “several states” the power to regulate themselves on all other points NOT covered under the Constitution? Home schoolers know this but not Ivy League pinheads as they have demonstrated time and again.

None of those idiots can read, understand or care to, DON’T TRUST them with yet another thing to screw up.

RUN THEM ALL OUT or we will go into slavery to the state. Guaranteed. With the level of stupidity of the electorate, that’s where we are headed anyway it appears.
