The Recession in Your Life? (vanity)

Posted on 12/03/2009 3:07:34 PM PST by MNDude

I was curious to hear how the economy has been effecting everyone's lives and communities? Has your job been effected, or do you see empty strip-malls on your block?

How are you handling the new troubles that come with such an economy?

Do you live in Cook County Illinois? Your area sounds so familiar....

Everyone I know has been affected. Either lost job, cut wages, hours cut and of course pay raises are out of the question.

Where my husband works they laid off half the people last year right before Christmas. They have only hired back 2. All the administrators took a ten percent pay cut.

Our business was down by 50% but has picked up some the last 2 months. We don't go out to eat as much and we will not spend as much on Christmas.

So many businesses have closed up. Some of them had been around for 20+ years. Empty strip malls, offices, etc. Housing developments that had been started now just sit with no work being done. Downtown is starting to look like a ghost town.

“By the way, notice I said that Walmart was laying off? This is Christmas season! That was the one thing most around here was relying on. It was the ‘go to’ and folks were waiting around for Christmas season to get some cash, but not this go round.”

My in-laws moved to Milledgeville over the summer. They said it’s the worst unemployment in the state.
