You were right, LS. Personally, I think the whole scheme was a dog-and-pony show and that they already had the bulk of the blue dogs on-board months ago and that Peloser and her commie cronies allowed a WWF-style pretend fight to take place to make the blue dogs’ constituents think they were really out their fighting it.

I fear that the wild card up their sleeve is to ram amnesty through in early 2010 just as they did the socialized medicine bill (which is what it is, let’s not allow them to control the language).

Once amnesty is through, the “community organizers” can work with the census workers to get them all registered to vote.

The dems in power no longer have to worry about backlash from the independent and moderates and conservative democrats who oppose this socialism.

The truly frightening news is that, if this comes to pass, we will have to talk about “saving America” in terms of generations, not election cycles.

Everything is in place in this country for a hostile takeover from within.

Pelosi's "Blue Dogs"

When they're at home, they's good ol boy, gun-totin', church-goin', pro-lifin' "Consoivatives". When they get to Washington, they become latte'-sippin', vin-drinking-with-the-pinkie-stuck-out, flag-burning, pot-smoking, Christian-mocking leftists.

If we want representatives with integrity, we need to be voters with integrity...

Until we, as an electorate, grow up and vote Principle, instead of Label, this is the kind of governance we can expect...

We always get the government we deserve...

This “fool the rubes” smoke and mirors charade is practiced by GOP and DEM alike. And why not? It works!

I never believed this "Blue Dog" BS even back when they talked about it in the mid 1990s. This label just describes a group of people able to successfully lie to enough idiot voters to convince them that they are conservative just in the hopes of getting elected.

The fact that it works is more of a reflection of the idiocy of the average US voter than it is on the "duplicity" of the members of this group.

I'll bet the same people who though that the flaming liberal "Blue Dogs" were going to "save" us also believed in the PUMAs, right?

The missing Hillary! PUMAs in '08 were sufficient warning that the Blue Dog Democrats of last night were were nothing more than sucker bait. This was a particularly hard lesson, but some conservatives are so stubborn in the face of facts that only beating beaten to a pulp twice gets their attention.

If the myths of Blue Dog tractability and Newt Gingrich's viability have finally been laid to rest this year, then there are two less stumbling blocks in the way. Better late than never, I suppose.

If there was a moderate dem who was pro-life, pro-gun, fiscally conservative, running agaist a true RINO, I’d still never vote for the dem. Every dem member either adds to their majority or allows them to have one.

Never, ever vote dem under any circumstance.

If Bush and the GOP hadn’t screwed up in 2006 there wouldn’t be any so called Blue Dogs

WE had a GOP President and a GOP congress and look how that turned out

This whole thing ran in on a wire. The fight was over who would be permitted to vote no to cover their butts. There never was any doubt.

The AARP stands to make a fortune:

AARP: Reform advocate and insurance salesman

"..GOP lawmakers point to AARP's thriving business in marketing branded Medigap policies, which provide supplemental coverage for standard Medicare plans available to the elderly. Democratic proposals to slash reimbursements for another program, called Medicare Advantage, are widely expected to drive up demand for private Medigap policies like the ones offered by AARP, according to health-care experts, legislative aides and documents..."

Good - and sobering - points. I guess my husband and I wasted our time in calling and e-mailing these so-called “principled” Blue Dogs last week, thinking we actually had a chance to sway them...

The democratic party has become a disciplined leninist party and adheres to the principle of “democratic centralism”. Once a decision is made by the leadership it is carried out and the appropriate followers are picked to make the necessary sacrifices for the good of the collective. If only the GOP had 1/10th the discipline. Watch the same game take place in the senate..

I’m not sure what a ‘Blue Dog Democrat” is. I am sure that anyone who voted for this bill is a fascist.

I think this is from earlier in the month, also. [blush]
Sadly, I was right. They didn't care. The entire choreography from August until last night was based on two tactical approaches: 1) "soften" the language just enough to get it by the public (NOT some "blue dogs") so that it did not appear as horrible as it is. This was 100% successful, as the AMA and AARPies all came on board; and 2) figure out which of the blue dogs would have to eat the bullet. It was only a numbers game. There were about 40-45 in really endangered positions, and thus at worst, only 5-10 would really have to be bribed or cajoled. The final count was four, plus one idiot Republican...
