[history]
Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.
The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.
The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.
The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.

I’m intrigued by the repeated comments that military bases are difficult to gain access to. Didn’t they report this morning about some teenagers that snuck onto a military facility?

Thats actually vaguely plausible. The biggest Mexican drug gang consists of former Mexican soldiers that were trained by the USA in counter-insurgency tactics. Well-trained, well armed. I can get the "drug deal" part. I can't get the "drug deal attacking a military base in camo" part...

Shemp is quite pathetic...I agree.

Really BIG freakin clue as to the nature of the attack. Well ya never know, however, it does seem clear if more than one shooter it would be a terrorist attack.
However, it sure seems odd that the base spokesperson would decline to described the shooter when the spokesperson just told CNN they were looking for the second shooter, then declined to described the suspect they're looking for.
It would seem to me, everyone in the region should know the description of the person they're looking for.

“So, how do they put out an APB without a description of the subjects of the bulletin?”
SOP in Northern California when the person isn’t and possibly illegal.

I can’t even imagine - a glorious experience being turned into a nightmare.
I felt such an overshelming rush of emotion at Zach’s graduation - took me completely by surprise. Not just for my son, but all the wonderful new airmen that in 8 short weeks became a disciplined group of men and women. And the instructors that took them there. And everyone on the base serving our country. My husband commented that the military is the last bastion of American pride and dignity and discipline. I never wanted to leave! (And hubby turned down the suggestion that he re-enlist so we could live in base housing somewhere.)
To: DoughtyOne
No idea what happened yet, but the guys on that local Fox feed are also discussing “what tipped the tea kettle”. They say everyone on base is meant to be there and is accounted for.
I can’t know it’s terrorists but don’t these people realize that possibility? Oy

Well, consider the source - it was an MSNBC general.
Still is amazing that the FBI has NOT released a emphatic statement, "This is no terrorism involved."

I’ve been asking myself for years why Shep is kept around. I can’t watch the guy.

"FBI? I am not happy that obambi is getting his mitts into this, first priority for that scumbag will be to protect the enemy, make sure no questions are asked of any moslems or illegals or former guantanamo terrorists." Protocol would dictate that Army CID would be the lead investigative unit, with the FBI acting in a supporting role. We will see how it shakes out. That is assuming that it's not terrorism related. If it was, then the FBI would take the lead.

Yep! Unless you are in a direct training exercize or your duty requires you to have one the normal military does not have access weapons! Weapons are kept in the armory. You just do not carry a weapon around because you have a uniform on!

The first thought of a DOD friend of mine in Texas, whose father is a retired colonel, was that this was a robbery or drug deal gone bad. He grew up in the Fort Hood area after his father's retirement, so I presume his initial opinion was based on local knowledge.
I told him that 2+ shooters and 20+ casualties were reported, whereupon he changed his opinion to terrorism by local jihadis, and said that the federale Cone of Silence would come down immediately if they suspect terrorism.
