--Obama in a painful situation, because just one year ago, he took these states. Now, tonight, they fell to the Republicans.
--It seems that with the election of the 2 Republicans and defeat of Obama, his prized "Health Care" program is in jeopardy.
--The results show the sentiment of the American People in those states toward Obama and is a reflection of what might be expected a year from now in the 2010 midterm elections.
--Obama had quite a year in Virginia (in 2008), which did not go for a Democrat for President in 44 years, and also the former Governor because a bigwig in the national campaign of the Democrats.
--Republicans got the state of Virginia back after eight years of control by Democrats.

I want to see exit polls of Obama 2008 voters Tuesday, who went with the Republican Governor candidate in their state, and how strong that particular sentiment was. There should be some good, embarrassing poll data out now from the elections which will make the White House look like they are really in trouble, which they are, at the grassroots, despite how they will try to spin it Wednesday morning enough to make us all barf at their lies and disengenousness.
I just read a couple of European papers and they’re saying much the same thing. I wonder how popular Obama really is overseas....

I would say the honeymoom between much of Japan and Obama, is more or less OVER. It was an intense one while it lasted, I will say that.
The Japanese sense strength in man. The Japanese also sense weakness in a man. They know the man now after nearly one year, and that he does not amount to much more than an empty suit who talks a slick game. This election results adds to that impression even more here overseas.

Ooops. Thats right. I had COMPLETELY forgotten that Obama did not even go into New Jersey in a high level effort to help Corzine--and also did not go into Virginia to help Deeds, too.

Simple really. Obama has :
a) lead a one sided legislative agenda which refuses to allow Repyublican conferences on legislative drafting in the House and Senate.Republicans are frozen out.
b) campaigned as if the election process was still ongoing,so as to maintain an image and call to action before the public. This image establishes him as a "perfect president."
These victories will disestablish Obama from his perfection, which is why the WH and commentors are distancing themselves fromm the Virginia election when just last week Obama was stumping for Corazine.THis reveals him to be even more two faced than before to the US public.
Obama is put to working with Republicans on compromise legislation, or choosing to remain an ideologue. These elections show him that if he continues to be an impractical ideologue, the Dems will pay for it at the polls.So far the WH spin shows that he will remain anideologue, which means the Dem party will do very poorly in any elections, including 2010. It also means he is a one term president ( if he can avoid impeachment in the meantime.)
These Republican election wins pressure him to work with Republicans and compromise his leftist agenda.If he does not, he will soon be toast, coast to coast.
Yes , these wins in Virginia and New Jersey are shots acriss Obama's bow, with a broadside soon to follow on Health Care, and the war in Afghanistan.
He will be forced to abandon Health Care, and send 48,000 troops to asGeneral McChrystal requested, (instead of meddling in Afghani politics, where Obama's man Abdhullah lost as well by withdrawing.)
Obama is gradually painting himself into a corner with his socialist ideology, and is becoming a laughing stock internationally with traditional US allies. Putin is about to take Obama to the woodshed in Afghanistan by wooing Karzai away from the USA, by threatening to support Abdhullah in the North of Afghanistan.
In short Obama is out of his league in Afghanistan, and the two Dem losses in NJ and VA highlight his weaknesses internationally, with weakness at home.
Japanese and Europeans are more objective about America than most Americans are.
For 40 years I have listened to non-Americans, because they aren’t biased like most of us are.
The wind is going out of Obama’s sails. He is not the maker of wind.
If he is a good politician, he will adjust his sails, to the wind. Doubtful, though.

Jennifer Rubin, over at Commentary, had a good summary:
“Yes, this is largely a referendum on the incumbent governor and the tax, corruption, and budget woes which bedeviled his administration. But this is New Jersey, a Blue state where Obama campaigned hard for the Democratic candidate, Jon Corzine. He made five separate stops. Corzine’s ads looked like Obama ads. Corzine tied himself tightly to Obama, but it helped not at all.”

One of the concerns I have regarding the current administration is that, by acting as a feckless and ineffective ally, it will push Japan toward the development of nuclear weapons and non-pacifist military policies. Are you hearing people discuss the security implications for Japan of an America that has been weakened or disengaged from developments in that region?
