I'm a huge Beck fan, in fact I'm listening right now here
http://www.ksfa860.com/common/gap_streamer.php
but something really confuses me. It takes the ability to use real critical thinking to know what Beck (and most of us know about the state of the country and where we are heading). That is, we have the ability to discover the truth no matter how much the media or conventional wisdom try to hide it. Yet on Mormonism, Beck is cleary wrong. Any Christian knows that the book or momonism is severely flawed and that Joseph Smith was no prophet. How can Beck cut through all the chaff of what is going on in our world and come to the truth and yet believe the writings of Joseph Smith? It doesn't make sense? I'm not saying he's up to something secret, not by any means, it's just that he's so right about so many things and completely wrong on the most important thing. Now, he just said on the air that he believes Jesus is the Savior of the world and that he is Mormon.
I also think that because he is Mormon he is not attacked near as much if he was a Evangelical Bible only believer. Anyway, am I nutz or does Beck being a Mormon seem bizarre?
Speaking of Mormonism...
Way, way back b4 the I’Net, I had a book on “cults” with one chapter in it that insisted that young Joe Smith had spent a few days in a NY jail with a traveling preacher who had been writing a book. The preacher made a profound impression on Smith.
It seems Smith went free a few days later and the preacher found he was then missing his manuscript. The author thought that that manuscript was the basis of Smith’s beliefs from that time on.
I have since (lately)attempted to determine the name and author of that book w/o success.
Anyone know of it?
It has fit a need for Glenn Beck-maybe it was the alcholic recovery program? Who knows. But he doesn’t prothosolize his beliefs which is far better than the anti-God left.
“I bet Flap Jackson in the Morning this Morning is a bitter agnostic.”
‘quack’ ‘quack’ :)
Because Progressivism is based on a completely artificial 19th century economic fiction and Conservatism is based on the continued observation of human nature over time in just the same way that science is based on drawing conclusions from real, observed phenomena.
That one works for me. Ticks some libs off big time, though, since they find it extremely difficult to come up with any objective arguments against it.
They also don't like it when I refer to "Marxist superstitions." (Hee hee hee!)
“Look at the catholic church in the north east where they hardly ever speak against abortion and homos and they vote for the Dems.” - Uh, it isn’t just NE Catholics - deceased Cardinal Bernardin of Chicago - worked hard to build a ‘big tent’ to add pro-abortion types, abortionists, anti-white racists, class envy experts, social ‘justice’ types, supported extreme leftist priests, sexual perverts, earth worshiping greenies and the so-called ‘social gospel’ types to his flock. Unfortunately, American Catholic Bishops remain strongly leftist.
See my tag line.

Because they go with what you said about working with Christ.
“Almost every single religion looks strange and cultish when viewed from the outside, yet, for someone on the inside of said religion, it seems perfectly sane and logical. Viewing things from the inside, one has trouble understanding how people view it differently from the outside. It is all a matter of perspective.”
I kind of see what you are saying, but how then can we not ‘accept’islamicable peoples. including the jihadists?
maybe it has to do with religions that go ‘out of their way’ to convert or deal with outsiders...
Many people agree with you.
Actually Beck is a Catholic who was baptized Catholic and is no longer practicing the Catholic faith.
Pray for him.
Since I have been listening to Beck from the days when his research staff consisted of himself, Stu and the lady who emptied the trash cans, I believe I have a very sound understanding of how Beck seeks out information.
Beck's primary characteristics are an inquiring mind, common sense and the ability to synthesize information into a discernable picture. Yes, as his popularity and scope has expanded, his staff expanded, however the Beck of today is the same Beck from years ago when there was no staff.
I readily admit that I do not know for a fact that Beck has a thourough knowledge of his religion. However, considering the characteristics he has demonstrated from his early talk show days through today, it seems absurd to believe that in something so important to his life, he would settle for superfulous knowledge.
I didn’t say anything about ‘accepting’, the question in the original posting was ‘how can Glen believe this’. I acknowledge that Hinduism is completely normal to Hindus who have grown up with it, that doesn’t mean I accept it as my religion or even valid.
He is not nutz...he’s telling the truth.
That is actually a really good point that should be applied to a LOT of media. The talking head rarely ever creates the content. He is nothing more than a mouthpiece for something, someone else wrote on a teleprompter. I have no idea about Beck specifically, but this is pretty much a general rule across the media.
Because spiritual discernment is different than rational evaluation.
Amen.
“Besides, who are WE to say what he believes is NOT the truth? Seems a bit ignorant to think otherwise, IMHO. “
That’s just the argument of either a feeble mind or someone trying to defend a position. You might believe in such bullsh*t but I am neither gullible or stupid. It takes a childish mind to think everyone should just forget what they know and allow anything and everything to be because somehow it is just arrogance otherwise. Look up arrogance and get back to us; thats an overused term.
