The special election to fill New York's vacant 23rd congressional seat is perhaps the earliest test of the GOP's chances to reclaim the House in 2010. Yet the GOP candidate, Dede Scozzafava, has struggled to line up Republican support, and has taken a pummeling from conservative groups that assert she's liberal. The Club for Growth and Eagle Forum, among others, support her opponent, Doug Hoffman, who's running on the Conservative Party ticket.
Add North Texas' Dick Armey to the list of conservative stars backing Hoffman. The former House Majority Leader has confirmed to the Hoffman campaign that he'll spend Thursday with them, said Rob Ryan, a Hoffman spokesman. "He is with us almost all day Thursday," Ryan told me. "There will be a bunch of different events." Armey's endorsement of Hoffman is personal and wasn't offered on behalf of FreedomWorks, the conservative foundation he chairs.

Ouch!
No.
The RNC did not pick the candidate. The local two-headed Rupublican county chiefs in NY-23 picked the candidate.
The RNC then got envolved by giving Dede the normal allocation of money only after Dede promised to sign the no tax pledge.
Ross Perot didn't help Obama win then and he won't help him win now. The third party argument is a strawman -- this is the kind of election we can use to show the national party that it needs to listen its base for a chance.
This is a conservative website. We support conservatives here. Dede isn't one of them, so we don't support her. Hoffman would caucus with the Republicans, so I don't see a downside to defeating a liberal. I trust you don't either.
The high poohbahs have to recieve a message, unfortunately it may be expensive to send! They seem to have hearing problems!
I agree in most cases, however I think Scozzafava is unacceptable and this should send a message to the party apparatus, and Hoffman has a real chance to win. I would never endorse third parties in most races or the presidential race by any means.
Mark my words. Armey is running for President in 2012.
If so, he has my vote.
Good idea.
“There was no primary, and Hoffman is the only choice.”
You don’t have primaries in NY? The turn out is really low in Illinois because you have to declare a party and in a one party state, alot of people don’t want to have to do that for fear of some sort of retribution. I guess we need to get to work on changing some election laws too!
Perot wouldn't have gotten any traction had Bush 41 stuck to Ronald Reagan's conservative principals.
I couldn’t remember his name; but I could remember his description. LOL

I agree. The best way for conservatives to win is to field a solid candidate in the primary and squeeze out the RINOs. If there’s enough difference between the pub and the Independent, then a good pub campaign can freeze out the Independent. If the pub party power foists a RINO on us through the primary process, we have to find a conservative Independent who can beat the pub.
The rats do this frequently. I am coming up on being 100% convinced that that’s what’s happening now in NJ, which will give Corzine the win.
There is no evidence of that. I think Armey is more interested in building his FREEDOM WORKS organization.
Should Armey does throiw his hat in the 2012 ring, then I will seriously consider him either on the GOP ticket or 3rd party ticekt.
Left Wing/Right Wing
two wings on the vulture eating at the corpse of Liberty.
Its really Us (the People) vs Them (the Government)
3rd Party could = the “Us” Party
If a conservative wishes to run in the primary then god bless em, but if they can't even win over the Republicans they only hurt us by going 3rd party.
Yup. Just ask Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Benedict Arnold Specter.
I agree. But when the party powers prevail in a primary, we have to go to the next step and try to blow them out with a conservative Independent.
Ideally, what should start happening now is that a few solid conservative pubs in safe districts should change their party affiliation to Independent so that conservative Independents are seen as a winning ticket. That will encourage more conservatives to run as Independents. Then the pub party powers will have to choose - our way or the highway.
It’s one thing for the rats to diminish the pub party from without. It’s another thing for us to do it from within in such a way that, after the bllod bath is washed away, the pub party emerges stronger and more conservatives. In other words, the only way to change the party power from RINO to conservative is to ram it down their throats. But ultimately we need them because they’ve got the infrastructure and the money.
If you want to support conservative candidates GREAT! Get them to run in the republican PRIMARY.
