Dick Armey to endorse 3rd party candidate over Republican in NY House race
Dallas Morning News ^ | 2:04 PM Mon, Oct 19, 2009 | Dick Armey to endorse 3rd party candidate over Republican in NY House race

Posted on 10/19/2009 1:37:18 PM PDT by cc2k

The special election to fill New York's vacant 23rd congressional seat is perhaps the earliest test of the GOP's chances to reclaim the House in 2010. Yet the GOP candidate, Dede Scozzafava, has struggled to line up Republican support, and has taken a pummeling from conservative groups that assert she's liberal. The Club for Growth and Eagle Forum, among others, support her opponent, Doug Hoffman, who's running on the Conservative Party ticket.

Add North Texas' Dick Armey to the list of conservative stars backing Hoffman. The former House Majority Leader has confirmed to the Hoffman campaign that he'll spend Thursday with them, said Rob Ryan, a Hoffman spokesman. "He is with us almost all day Thursday," Ryan told me. "There will be a bunch of different events." Armey's endorsement of Hoffman is personal and wasn't offered on behalf of FreedomWorks, the conservative foundation he chairs.

“I make my fight in the primaries.”

Good for you! I’ve worked the local polling places on election day, couldn’t believe how few people turned out in non-presidential election years. THAT is when conservatives need to get to work. We don’t need on a third party. We have a one party system right not—the party of big government and the party of bigger government. We need to turn the Republican Party into a new conservative party....

She once stated she could not sign the tax pledge because raising taxes might be necessary. Then she signed it when Hoffman started doing so well.

She’d vote for tax hikes in a heartbeat.

Keep this third party stuff up and obama will win in 2012

Well, if the RNC does what it did in this race--support a candidate even more liberal than the Democrat one--then what's the loss?

It would be very difficult to do that with a far-leftist like Obama, but it wouldn't surprise me if the RNC managed to do so!

I think he is referring to the Clinton and little fart from Dallas crud that ushered Clinton right into office.

Well, it at least it lets Conservatives vote for someone who shares their views. That Republican backed nut-job sure isn’t one of us.

Take a good look at California, if you want to see what a RINO will eventually do to you.

A conservative cannot win up there

HUH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

What part of the district are you from, who can make such a bizarre statement as that?!?!?

I would like to see the RNC establish a rule that they will formally disavow any person who purports to run for any office as a pub who has not met the standards of the party platform.

You will never turn the GOP into the conservative party by supporting candidates like Scuzzylady.

The voters now finally have a choice. There was no primary, and Hoffman is the only choice.

“A conservative cannot win up there, unfortunately RINO’s are necessary in local elections”

You are mistaken. George W. Bush carried the district in 2000 and 2004, and Congressman John McHugh was elected there 9 times, without being pro-abortion, pro-same-sex-marriage or pro-cap-and-trade.

It is the Daily KOS-endorsed, pro-abortion, pro-same-sex-marriage, pro-cap-and-trade, pro-bailouts, pro-Obama-”stimulus”-package RINO Dede Scozzafava that cannot win. Moderate Republicans should join conseervatives in supporting Doug Hoffman for Congress.

This woman doesn’t even qualify as a RINO from what I’m reading about her.

The Republican party may have inadvertently provided the real spark for a group that will replace it. If so, most excellent! Conservative party, watch out what slugs you allow in from the cold. Pretty soon you could have the same GOP under a different name. RINOs need not apply. And more importantly, need not be taken into the new party

Too late with your warning. The NY Conservative party has been endorsing Dede in previous elections. Even when the WFA had endorsed Dede.

Yeah because rallying behind liberal/centrist Republicans has done so much for us, right?

That would absolutely be true. That is one reason I don’t mind supporting him from well outside his district. If his district was in line with Scozzafava, I would be more hesitant to involve myself.

The guy who was elected to this seat in 2008 had a 71.55% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union. The R in the race, the “big R” libeRal democRat has a 15% rating from the New York conservatives, and is more liberal than 46 Democrats in the New York state House.

east1234 wrote:

You haven’t read the positions of their previous congressman, John McHugh. And remember that 71.55% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union. This man won the district last year with 65% of the vote.

On the same ballot, John McCain, perceived as a RINO and copromiser, lost this district.

This district votes for conservatives and against RINOs. The RNC and the RCCC made a huge mistake in this race, and they are doubling down and tripling down on it with money donated by conservatives who thought they were supporting the Republican platform. That is fraudulent and corrupt.

Once this election is over, we really need to clean house in the RCCC and the House leadership who supported this libeRal democRat who got the “R” in this race.

annalex wrote:
The only way for the GOP to re-gain power on any level is to dump the leftist trash like that.
We also need to clean up the RCCC, the RNC and other “leaders” who chose to give this woman the “R” in this race.
From the desk of
cc2k:
Please support Doug Hoffman for Congress.

Please, spread the word about this important race in New York’s 23rd congressional district.

Her conservative rating dropped to 15% this year. In previous years it averaged around 50% (all according to the Consrevative party rating).

Thanks for the information...I’m not familiar with the district. The Illinois RINO’s are working at jamming their candidate down out throats, but there are some solid conservatives also running. With Blago’s fumbling D replacement currently in the governor’s office, the R’s have a good chance of winning the office in this one party state with unemployment over 10% and new taxes and fees being introduced on almost a daily basis.....

Yes, that’s probably true. Then again, you’d get the wing nuts on the left to diversify their votes too.
