Dick Armey to endorse 3rd party candidate over Republican in NY House race
Dallas Morning News ^ | 2:04 PM Mon, Oct 19, 2009 | Dick Armey to endorse 3rd party candidate over Republican in NY House race

Posted on 10/19/2009 1:37:18 PM PDT by cc2k

The special election to fill New York's vacant 23rd congressional seat is perhaps the earliest test of the GOP's chances to reclaim the House in 2010. Yet the GOP candidate, Dede Scozzafava, has struggled to line up Republican support, and has taken a pummeling from conservative groups that assert she's liberal. The Club for Growth and Eagle Forum, among others, support her opponent, Doug Hoffman, who's running on the Conservative Party ticket.

Add North Texas' Dick Armey to the list of conservative stars backing Hoffman. The former House Majority Leader has confirmed to the Hoffman campaign that he'll spend Thursday with them, said Rob Ryan, a Hoffman spokesman. "He is with us almost all day Thursday," Ryan told me. "There will be a bunch of different events." Armey's endorsement of Hoffman is personal and wasn't offered on behalf of FreedomWorks, the conservative foundation he chairs.

The only way for the GOP to re-gain power on any level is to dump the leftist trash like that.

A conservative cannot win up there, unfortunately RINO’s are necessary in local elections, NEVER AGAIN for national office.

Hoffman is a Republican running on the Conservative Party line.

Scuzzobama is a liberal democrat who was given the GOP line by ignorant party bosses.

This has nothing to do with Obama, other than the fact Dede will vote for his agenda.

The Republican party may have inadvertently provided the real spark for a group that will replace it.

If so, most excellent!

Conservative party, watch out what slugs you allow in from the cold. Pretty soon you could have the same GOP under a different name.

RINOs need not apply. And more importantly, need not be taken into the new party.

If Joe Lieberman can win as an independent, why not Doug Hoffman as an independent?

**RINO-ism won’t win in 2012.**

GOP (Grandly Odd Progressives) may just as well nominate Olympia Snow for 12 so we can start planning the Funeral for the GOP right now.

"Dem will get the seat"

The ONLY way the dems will get the seat in NY-23 is if the citizens of that district vote for the dem. . .

Or,

The republican.

Being a Republican is not the same as being a Conservative and this race absolutely proves the point.

A vote for Dede Scozzafava IS a vote for a liberal democrat.

A conservative cannot win up there

According to the "leaders" of the GOP, a conservative "can't win" most anywhere.

It's a lie.

There are few places in America where in a three-way plurality race between two liberals and one conservative that the conservative can't win.

This race is helping to illustrate this fact very nicely.

You know what, I think you’ve touched on an important topic.

Look, you may be right. On the other hand, how is that Republican party working out for you?

If the RP would show that it had gotten religion, I’d support it. It hasn’t. It won’t. It’s dangerously close to complete irrelevance.

If I wanted to vote for a Democrat, I’d be a Democrat. I’m done voting for Democrats in the Republican party, and not a single one of them will EVER get another vote from me.

The leadership of the party, be it in Washington, D.C, the state capitals, or even the local parties, has just imploded in too many places.

Many of these people couldn’t tell you what a Conservative was if their life depended on it.

I’ll give you an example.

We’re in the fight of our live trying to block another massive government takeover of the private economy, namely health care. So what does Steele do? Why he endorses Mitt Romney to be the new voice of the party. This the same Mitt Romney that not only pushed through Romneycare in his home state, but wants to take it national.

How off key is that? I can hear the Conservative chorus, but someone is singing flat. That my friends is the head of the RNC, Michael Steele. He’s tone deaf. He’s just one of many Republican leaders who are.

They are unfit to lead any party that I wish to be a part of.

Keep this third party stuff up and obama will win in 2012

Keep supporting the shit the RNC keeps throwing at the wall and you won't be able to tell the difference anyway.

If Hoffman pulls this out or not the GOP will get the same message : The GOP is too conservative.

If Bill Owens wins, the GOP is too conservative.

If Bill Owens wins and ScuzzyLady is third, the GOP is too conservative.

The press releases are probably already written.

>> Keep this third party stuff up and obama will win in 2012 <<

We NEED the 3rd party candidate on this election because it could be seen as a litmus test and wake up call to the RINOs in the RNC to run some real conservatives.

If Hoffman wins by a wide margin it would WAKE up the RNC.

Exactly!

One of the few things New York does right is that the thriving third parties can run their own candidates or endorse the major party ones, allowing the voter to indicate that even if he supports the Republican candidate, for example, he is doing it through the Conservative line on the ballot. Or, if the GOP runs a liberal, they can run their own candidate.

When the NY GOP ran Pierre Rinfret in 1990, Conservative Party candidate Herb London came VERY close to beating Rinfret for second place, which would have meant that the Conservative Party would have replaced the Republican Party in having "Major Party" status in New York State. Anyone who doesn't think that that would have caught some attention is not playing with a full deck!

If the idiotic Right to Life party had supported the Pro-Life London instead of running their own candidate, Louis P. Wein, or if a quaerter of the voters for Wein had gone for London, London would have made it into second spot and furthered their agenda. If that had happened, the Conservative Party would have been moved up to the second line on the next ballot, they would have been able to have election commissioners in each county, etc.

So the problem wasn't a "third party" but a "fourth party." The lesson is to run your own candidate when the more major candidate doesn't support your views, but when he does, then endorse him.

Well, I’ll donate to any guy who can prove that point.

If they’re close enough, I’ll walk the sidewalks to help out.

Scuzzy doesn’t belong in the GOP, period. The GOP is better off with the Democrat winning this seat than her.

Go Hoffman.

Splits the “Conservative” vote in the general election.

The way to win is take the RINO out in the primary.

If the local party bosses do not allow a contested primary then work to change the local party bosses.

I’m in NC. Obama won NC by less than 25,000 votes. Barr got 25,000 votes in the general election.

After being beaten up by voting for RINOs all these years, I’m taken aback by those still foisting the “hold-my-nose-and-vote” strategy. There is change afoot and I don’t mean Baracky change. Tea Party and 912 groups are out there organizing by zip and precinct to make sure Conservative candidates are fielded and funded.
