Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro police say an 80-year-old man is not facing charges after he shot and killed a break-in suspect early Wednesday morning.
Charles Haithcock called 911 immediately following the shooting of 19-year-old Michael L. Medley who he says broke into his home.
Haithcock: A man broke in on me and pulled a gun. i shot him and hes laying out in the yard.
911 Operator: Is he breathing?
Haithcock: I dont know. he broke in the window. He pulled the air conditioning out in the living room. And I heard something and he come back to the bedroom. I was in the bed. And I opened the door and he had pulled, what looked like a shotgun, he was pointing it at me.
Police responded to the home on Walnut Street Wednesday morning, which is near Summit Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found Medley, Jr. dead from a gunshot wound.
The guy ran into the back room, locked his door and shot through the bedroom door and killed him, said Haithcocks neighbor, who did not want to be identified.
At this time, Haithcock is not facing criminal charges. However, police say the shooting incident remains under investigation.
WFMY News 2 has learned that Medley has a criminal record, which includes a conviction for Common Law Robbery.
The apartment where the 80-year-old lives is located near the Greensboro Police Departments Eastern Division precinct.
The police department is sitting right here, and they still kicked in this door and stole a car from in front of the house, said Haithcocks neighbor. I would think this was the safest place to be.

THREAD BUMP.
Step 1
Step 2
The "old timer" did things in the proper order.
Darwin at work here!
I watched the video where the (black) neighbor was talking about how “it’s crazy round here,” even next door to the police station, and: “If you ain’t got no gun, you better get one.”
Step three, sweep off the front lawn. (just kidding, you have to wait for the police)
Step four, get on with your life.
I have zero sympathy for a guy who gets shot dead while inside someone else’ home trying to commit robbery.
That's open season in my book.
When the little girl opened the door of her grandmother's house she saw that there was somebody in bed with a nightcap and nightgown on.
She had approached no nearer than twenty-five feet from the bed when she saw that it was not her grandmother but the wolf, for even in a nightcap a wolf does not look any more like your grandmother than the Metro-Goldwyn lion looks like Calvin Coolidge.
So the little girl took an automatic out of her basket and shot the wolf dead.
(Moral: It is not so easy to fool little girls nowadays as it used to be.)

My only concern would be getting the stains out of the carpet.
He did make it to the lawn. The stains may not be that big.
With a little luck most of the bleeding may have been internal.
Got broken into once. Punk had a crowbar. Didn’t have a gun, but I managed to scare the daylights out of him and take his crowbar off of him.
I’m still annoyed the police weren’t able to run him down!
My only concern would be getting the stains out of the carpet.
After shooting roll them over onto a plastic garbage bag. The police might not like that however.
LOL
