Lawyer: Ohio execution on hold after vein troubles

LUCASVILLE, Ohio – A lawyer for a condemned inmate in the state death chamber says execution team members have taken a break after struggling to access the inmate's veins.

Attorney Tim Sweeney says the team is having trouble inserting IVs into the arms of 53-year-old Romell Broom. Broom is sentenced to die for raping and killing 14-year-old Tryna Middleton in Cleveland in 1984.

It was the second delay of the Tuesday execution, originally scheduled for 10 a.m.

Broom entered the death chamber shortly before 2 p.m. after losing a last-minute appeal request.

In 2005, an execution was delayed for more than an hour after the team failed to properly attach an IV. That led to changes in Ohio's execution process.

I think the whole lethal injection method could be considered cruel and inhumane just because of the time required to start the IV. England’s famous hangman, Albert Pierrepoint, was able to complete the job from noose to trap in less than a minute.

what a load... just start a central line or go IO... hell just give the guy 100 mg of Ativan (I exaggerate) and inject a couple of hundred units of regular insulin sq... that should just about do the trick . Then sell tickets to compensate the 14 year old victims family and maybe make book on when he quits seizing and just dies.

Just haul out the pistol for a head shot after the third attempt doesn’t work. Who cares how he is killed, this PC crap is ridiculous. Gas Chamber was much more efficient and it worked every time. I don’t see why one shot to the head with a .22 long rifle isn’t allowed. Humane, quick and sure.

I know your suggestions are tounge-in-cheek, but according to the article:

Since the law obviously doesn't currently allow us to shoot him or hang him, it's not entirely a bad idea to leave him strapped to the cot to think about what's coming for a while eh?
