This is a public thank you to all the Freepers who made the weekend in DC so memorable: THANK YOU!
Special kudos go to Jim Robinson for making the site possible, Brytani and seekthetruth for all the hard work arranging such a great experience and to all the speakers and musicians at the vigil and banquet who challenged us, and the DC Chapter of Free Republic for their self-sacrificing work EVERY WEEK at Walter Reed! You guys are the absolute greatest!
What an uplifting, exhilarating, educational and historical event.
Thanks also to TCH, Glock_Fan, RightwingIntelligensia, Streetsmart, Mrs. Streetsmart, Wicked Smaht and other Freepers whose handles I have yet to remember, for hanging with me, helping me figure out the Metro card machines and for sharing their stories with me!
You guys were the best!
Are my FR settings/groups/subscriptions just set wrong that I’m not seeing reports about the convention? This is the first thread I’ve seen-where are the others??? Thanks in advance!!!
I dunno, I had such a good time I had to thank those responsible! If you weren’t there this time, there is talk of doing it again next year so we can make a big impression before the 2010 elections. Congress, CAN YOU HEAR US NOW?
Count me in for next year! So upset I could not go this time but was lucky enough to attend the anti-clinton FR march on Washington back in the day.
You are so very correct...they did an outstanding job, and from long distance! The program was outstanding and I was so glad to see old Freeper Friends and make new ones.
Florida is so well represented that when I leave the DC area this fall, I will go to another wonderful FR group.
Thank you everyone that helped!
We had a videographer and I took a bid of video myself. It takes forever to get it uploaded on youtube.
Plus the videographer and I both brought home the flu with us from DC, which is not helping the process any. I think the travelers are all in recovery mode at the moment.
Go to You tube and HonestConservative’s channel in a couple days and I hope to have some more video up by then. If you go there now, you will see Allen Wests speech on Friday night after the vigil.
If we do this again, I am going to stay in the SAME hotel with the other Freepers ... I took a beating in cab fares, LOL
Brytani is kinda in recovery mode right now... we're enjoying some of the sights and relaxing. SeekTheTruth and DH are on their way home and I'm sure will be checking in soon.
Please add me to the grateful list.(and of course, mr. freeangel—yea-he’s still a lurker) It was an AWSOME weekend! THANK YOU!
And did we learn any useful lessons this weekend? Hmmmm?
Kudos to “Jim Thompson” and the rest of the organizers, as well as the DC chapter hosts. I enjoyed the weekend thoroughly.
We are a great group of oddballs.
Also, thanks to the staff, especially the shuttle drivers at the Sheraton. They did a fine job making me feel welcome. The drink prices were obscene, but the place was OK.
I guess it’s time to change my tag line.
While I’m at it, I’ll always remember the view from the shuttle through the revolving glass doors as I pulled away from the Hotel in the shuttle: JimRob was holding court with a small group of Freepers, including a couple of the DC folks. They were all grinning from the obvious pleasure of eachother’s company.
What a great way to remember the weekend. Thanks guys.
Next time we do this, we'll have to take a walk up the hill to the K-1 Liquor store; it's only about a 1/2 mile walk one way...I know this because I walked to the CVS across the street three times....Gotta pack better next time!
Yes we did! We learned that next time we need to bring our laptop so we can communicate with other Freepers. We learned that unless we want to spend hours hiking back and forth to the CVS we need to pack better. And we need to stop at the liquor store on the way back from the CVS so we don't end up paying obscene prices for one glass of wine.
I wanted to thank everyone at the Convention for welcoming me into their party. I was there as a guest of one of the guest speakers and was immediately treated like one of the family. It was great to be around like-minded people who share the same concerns about the wrong direction our Government is headed. I look forward to future events and plan on staying at the hotel where the convention is next ime. I waited over 1 hour to get a cab back to my hotel in D.C.
$12.50 for a martini up ... beyond obscene.
The bar setup in my room however was quite reasonable, although lacking in good company.
On banquet night I was able to scarf up enough free drink coupons from teetotalers to dine in comfort.
Yes - someone had a $135 bar tab billed to me room, and I’m one of those teetotalers.
Must have been the guy who tried to get into my room on 3 separate occasions after the banquet, the third time going so far as to bring security to let him in.
“Excuse me sir, is this gentleman staying in your room.”
“No, I’ve never seen him before.”
Regardless, I convinced the front desk I wasn’t the guilty party and to drop the bar charges. No harm done.
Wife and I had a great time. My personal thanks to Brittani, Seekthetruth, Jim Thompson, Col. West, Lloyd Marcus, Lisa Norton (and son), and all the others who did such a great job and put forth the effort.
