My sister and B-I-L arrived yesterday afternoon from Houston. My sister and B-I-L along with close to 20 other people met up in Senator Cornyn's office. He was courteous, spent time talking to all of them. He also confirmed he did NOT like the health care bill and shared he was proud people were getting involved. My sister stated it was a very positive meeting.
They then went over to Al Green's office. They were the only ones who went to Green's office. While she did say the lady was friendly she also was asked what district my sister was from. When my sister told her it was from Al Green's district she was called a liar because the 'lady' told my sister she wasn't a constituent of Green's. Even with proof of where my sister lived, the 'lady' stated what they were doing was unconstitutional. Since when does meeting with your representative means you aren't a true constituent.
The so-called lady refused to give any details acout what type of insurance she was privy to, how much it cost her and refused to answer hardly any questions.
Please thank them for being there on behalf of many thousands of us who appreciate their efforts.
FRegards to your sister and husband. Wish we could be there with them.
I guess if you aren’t a minority, this prejudiced woman doesn’t believe you can be a constituent of a Dem congressman from Houston.
Thanks NEMDF
This is the first time my sister has ever been interested in politics. Back when she started expressing an interest I showed her FR. It took a while for me to convince her to sign up as she preferred lurker mode. I explained there’d come a day when she’d be motivated enough to want to respond so she might as well be a registered member of the website.
I wish I had been able to go too. Unfortunately I have health issues which couldn’t have stood up to many (if not all) of the activities so she’s also standing in for me.
As I receive updates I’ll post them. At least for me the updates will be interesting since she’s never been one to be an activist up until she went to the Houston Tea Party.
The ‘lady’ in Al Greens office may be looking for a job after the next election!
THROW THE BUM OUT!
he can't even wear a shirt
One would hope! My sister did say she was, at the least, cordial even though she was doing her best to disassociate herself from 2 of her constituents.
They should go meet the freepers, they will feel right at home with them.
Okay, I have to admit that when I read the title of the thread, my reaction was: “how did they know there were EXACTLY 912 people there?
I wish I was kidding.
Three ladies on his staff talked to us for about 30 minutes, and were great in answering alot of our concerns.
It was a stark difference going over to Al Green's office. While the lady was cordial, you could tell she did not believe me when I told her we lived in his district.
Hubby signed in to their book and I handed her a "Pink Slip" to give to Mr. Green and as we walked out, I told her that we really are his constituents!
As a veteran of the March for Justice (1998), I can tell you you are in for unbelievable excitement being in our Capitol with so many other great Americans!
Breathe it all in and I promise you won’t be coming off the high until you’ve returned. I WISH I could’ve made it up for this protest, but I have health issues too.
STAY SAFE AND HAVE A BALL!!!
Great album, and I do mean album.
How many do you think will show for the Tea Party Rally?
OUTSTANDING!
Welcome to Washiungton
The arrogant SOBs are in for a shock.
I am so excited to be in DC and to be part of this historic event! I just hope there are enough folks here for them to sit up and take notice.
That lady was disgraceful. But, that’s okay, she and her boss are on notice now. You should tweet these encounters as they happen. It’s very effective at exposing these autocrats.
Sorry about the mistake. Our conversations have been a little short since you were always about to take off to see more.
To: All
Well, my sister thoroughly enjoyed the march and the gathering afterwords.
As I believe I mentioned, she and her DH have never been to DC before and theyre really enjoying all of the sights they’ve been to. My days are kind of running together so now I can’t remember whether it was this morning when they were at the Smithsonian or not.
I do know she know wants to go back to DC to see what she’s missed and to make sure she has more time to spend.
Now, y’all don’t know what a grump she can be especially when her feet hurt. As she told me, her blisters have blisters and she’s not complaining and still wants to go back. Out of all of the places she’s visited this is the only one she wants to go back to.
I wish I had more in the way of specifics to offer but once she’s back in Houston, I’m sure she’ll have a lot to share.
I can’t wait til you’re home and we have more time to talk about all you saw and what you did. Oh, and lots and lots of pictures please!
