WASHINGTON Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.
Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.
The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."
The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........
You certainly don’t hear any - except for maybe Roy Blunt - saying “let’s get rid of Medicare altogether! It’s government run health care already!”
If this thing explodes, it takes Obama with it.
But if it’s popular, won’t that strengthen his position even more? And it mat prove popular over the next decade, in spite of the cost. We already live in a “Buy now, pay later” culture - and that is about cars and TVs. When it comes to medical treatments, folks may feel even more justified to buy now, pay later.
Thanks for the ping!
“Factoid: Secretary Paulson was confirmed unanymously by the US Senate. Not a single democrat voted against the worst Republican appointment in recent US history. [Or perhaps the worst GOP appointment of all time.]”
Was there a CONSPIRACY by Democrats (Socialists/marxists) to crash US Economy, and Paulson was in on it??? It’s Paulson who so wanted the first BAILOUT, that he told Pres Bush and Congress (in June08 in private meeting) and later that without it, that the whole country would go down.
REMEMBER when Obama said during campaign (when McCain went back to Wash, DC), that he was on phone daily with Paulson...isn’t that concerning?
I want you to look at Henry Paulson’s boards and contact list, it is eyeopening. He is on that new world bank’s Board....HSBC Board of Directors, and look at HSBC Holdings PLC, and the relationships those people have are listed...Check out the number of important relationships by clicking on it, and finding out who is involved with who.

You're right. That could be part of our counter plan...
It’s their collective “foot.” They can remove all the toes they want.
Socialist jokers.
Because then people would add two and two together and realize that that's what dems are going to do with "health care" - they're going to take what was our health insurance and bankrupt it.
We are. Certainly I am on almost a daily basis attending townhall meetings, think tank presentations, sending faxes and emails, letters to the editor, etc.
But you must realize that the Dems hold all the power in terms of votes. We can't stop them in Congress. Yet, the Dems are placing the blame on Reps. Why? They are trying to unify their own people by making this a partisan issue with the Reps as the boogeyman.
I am warning you. They will pass a healthcare bill. Obama and the Dems have too much invested in it. Their own survival depends on it. We must not give up after it is passed. We must continue to fight and win in 2009 (NJ and VA) and in 2010. If you think that all is lost after the Dems pass whatever they pass, then you are the one who is giving up. All is not lost as long as we continue to fight. Buck up, man.
Now is the push to make the insurance companies out as demons. Gov't checking into pay scales and bonus trips??? Are we not supposed to make money anymore? I work for bonus money and love a perk trip if I get one!
offense defense offense defense offense...
No, they can’t. That is why we have an annual budget.
There are a hell of a lot more seniors that there are immigrants!!!!!
You're right. They're the new demons.
The Chicago way will offer them an "out" from being demons. Remember how the auto industry was being demonized? Then when they "went along to get along" they were rewarded with tax subsidies on cars to the tune of $4,500 a pop?
And banks? All bad - we heard how much they were spending redecorating their offices - now - nothing. They're going along to get along...
Health care insurers? - if they cave - they're finished.
Look at the car dealerships closed down - and more to follow. Banks are being artificially propped up - but it won't hold.
Insurance companies need to take a stand - no matter how many "rent a crown" thugs are bussed in...
They said: "Just as public disgust over 4 years of Carter and a democratic congress led to the Reagan revolution, 4 years of Obama and a democratic congress will lead to another conservative revolution for the same reason."
Maybe they were wrong.
So far it seems that the titans of industry have sold out this country
Can you say Fascism?
I feel the same way when electric utilities support Cap and Trade!!!!Fascism
I think you can add Tim (RedEarth) Johnson and Pryor from Arkansas.
First and only time in all of recorded history that a nation of individuals asserted itself as superior over its government. It was a unique historical event
Devine intervention?
WASHINGTON Given hardening American opposition to Demoncrat Death Panel & Rationing proposals, Demoncrats now say they see little chance for the citizen's cooperation in sticking their grand kids with trillions of dollars in waste, and are increasingly focused on drawing attention away from the Death Care language hidden in the Stimulus package that provides for a final solution from those not in their own ranks.
Top Demoncrats, having just initiated preemptive punitive audits on the nation's Health Insurers said Tuesday that the keep-yer-effing-hands-off-the-private-sector-view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans, American and Foreign patients, Doctors, Orthopedic Surgeons, and other health care professional's warning against socialist health care schemes during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans - and anyone else that can read - that current proposals had little to do with caring for the sick, while greatly enriching and empowering the President's financial backers.
The White House spokesman, Baghdad Bob Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of devious plan that so many Demoncrats & illiterates believe is necessary to ensure an air of pompousness while the gold teeth that the president covets are fitted before the 2nd year of this madness begins."
The Demoncrat's sideways punt may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still recognize the views of Americans, and Demoncrats worried about their jobs and are scoping out jetliners with the capacity of the entire left side of congress should the legislation crafted by ACORN, CAIR, and NAMBLA, along with those of more sinister Demoncrats, determined to win a lifetime government Czar position of denying lifesaving medicines to babies and the elderly run into a mob of citizens who have read the bills, forcing the rats to run for cover....
Bring It On, Assholes! The deadbeat Republicans had better stay out of the way. Revolution is on it’s way, big time!
Go for it, dems. You want it.. you OWN it!!
I am a racist as well!
