MSNBC Freaks Out: Lawfully Armed Citizen Protesting Obama Outside Portsmouth Town Hall

MSNBC is having an on air meltdown over a man their camera crew videotaped openly carrying a handgun at an anti-Obama protest in Portsmouth, New Hampshire this morning near where Barack Obama will be holding a town hall meeting later today.

MSNBC showed footage of the man with the gun openly holstered to his right leg. He was holding a large sign with words about the tree of liberty.

The Portsmouth police chief informed MSNBC the man was legally armed.

The man was reportedly standing with a group of protesters on the property of a church.

More as this develops.

Knowing the people I know here in New Hampshire, and their political proclivities, I'm surprised that MSNBC only saw ONE person carrying a sidearm. In the circles I'm in, it's not uncommon to see half a dozen young women carrying sidearms at larger events. I suspect the MSNBC people just weren't looking hard enough.

There is no recital of the necessity of a well-regulated militia, as there is in the corresponding clause in the Conmstitution of the United States. The arms which every person is secured the right to keep and bear (in the defense of himself or the State, subject to legislative regulation), must be such arms as are commonly kept, according to the customs of the people, and are appropriate for open and manly use in self-defense, as well as such as are proper for the defense of the State. - Texas Supreme Court in State v. if someone is threatening to initiate the use of force against you, then the lawful appearance of a gun is a symbol of the the fact that one is justified in the use of forceful self defense against the initiation of force.

I don’t think the SEIU will be beating down anyone in this protest.

Guns are wonderful peacemakers. We should ensure that a decently large contingent of open-carry protesters always attend any function where the SEUI has assembled (along with a few camcorders for posterity... and evidence).
