Hawaii state Sen. Will Espero, a Democrat, has confirmed plans to introduce legislation through which the state's lawmakers would force the public disclosure of all President Obama's birth documents held by the Hawaii Department of Health, including President Obama’s long-form original birth certificate.

Espero told WND his bill is aimed at "giving citizens access to birth records" under a standard of government transparency which would permit journalists to request in writing the public disclosure of vital birth records including long-form birth certificates of all persons born in Hawaii. He said it would include the release of birth records on those previously born in Hawaii.

"My decision to file the legislation was primarily a result of the fuss over President Obama's birth records and the lingering questions," Espero said.

Espero told WND that he believes President Obama was born in Hawaii.

"My motivation is strictly to promote transparency," he said.

"When I found out that Hawaii birth records were not available to the public my first thought was, 'Why wouldn't they be available to the public?'

"As far as I am concerned, records regarding whether a person was born here or not should be in the public domain," he said.

Asked specifically about Obama's birth records, including the original long-form birth certificate, Espero said, "Whatever birth records regarding President Obama that the Hawaii Department has on file should be made public."

Once his legislation is drafted, Espero said he would submit it to Hawaii Director of Health Dr. Chiyome Fukino for comment before introducing the legislation to the Hawaii state legislature.

Good for him.

Though the final bill had better not be limited to ‘Journalists’. Who gave them a patent of nobility?

I had to present a certified copy of my birth certificate in order to renew my drivers license. I also had to present it in order to hold on to my job.

I guess if you’re a democrat thug you don’t have to do the same things required of the peons. Like follow laws and pay taxes.

A typical dim. Instead of proposing records of those seeking office should be made public he wants everyone’s to be made public. Has everyone forgotten about the booming identity theft market that affects the average person? I don’t want every criminal out there to have access to my records...

Part of the article that I could not past in due to length deals with ID theft

“Espero emphasized that his legislation would make provisions to deal with security issues by making sure no information would be released that could aid criminals to commit identity theft.”

If conservative states like say Texas would start now and enact legislation that a candidate for any national office has to submit proof of their citizenship to the states Attorney General before being placed on the ballot. Delineate what constitutes proof and in 2012 we see what happens. And no grandfathering just because you have held office.

Pretending to do something while making sure there will be firm opposition.

I’m a bit skeptical. Obama’s people have had plenty of time to research, change, edit etc the birth records, so it’s a good start to release them, I’m wondering if this is orchestrated by Obama.

On the other hand, it’s a start. Let’s have the other records released also.

Isn't it actually against the law for state governments to release personal information regarding citizens to anyone except the person the records are about?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_Act_of_1974

After looking at the above link, it seems that it is indeed illegal for local government to just make your records public, therefore attempting to pass a law forcing the state government to release information to the public regarding one individual (and I doubt this would be applied to just Obama) is pointless as this would be contradicting existing law and would probably not survive a court challange.

And why is a senator proposing this legislation anyway? The bill will eventually have to make its way up to Obama, if it even gets out there for a vote, he can simply veto it. Once again, a pointless exercise.

Obama himself will have to release this information, and seeing as he seems satisfied he's followed the law, I doubt that will happen any time soon.

I said some time ago that Obama would soon have a BC. There are other documents and facts that must be adjusted.
