'GAY' SHERLOCK HOLMES COULD BACKFIRE FOR GUY RITCHIE

August 4, 2009 --

GUY Ritchie's plan to put a gay spin on the relationship of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in his new movie about the detective and his sidekick could backfire.

Robert Downey Jr</strong>, who plays Holmes, has revealed the crimebuster will sleep with and have sweaty grappling scenes with Watson, played by Jude Law, in "Sherlock Holmes," due out Christmas Day.

"We're two men who happen to be roommates, wrestle a lot and share a bed. It's bad-ass," Downey told Britain's News of the World. Added much-in-the-news Law: "Guy wanted to make this about the relationship between Watson and Holmes. They're both mean and complicated."

But Michael Medved, a former Post movie critic, says Downey and Law must be joking. "There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals," Medved told us. "I think they're just trying to generate controversy . . . They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two-thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don't want to see it."

The Rupert Evert one was disturbing, to say the least.

What’s the title? Sherlock Homo and the case of the buried bone?

Then the title of this movie should then be “Sherlock Holmes And The Case of The Hershey Highway.”

How will the movie deal with the fact that Watson was married?

James McGreevy will be his stunt double.

I have the tagline for this movie;

“Finally a Sherlock Holmes Where The End Isn't Just Where the Case Is Wrapped Up.”

It already worked for the Hardly Boys.

I have a raging clue that this movie will face some stiff competition in the theaters.

“Don’t you see what you’ve done, Moriarty? You’ve turned me into a whore!”

“I didn’t turn you into a whore, Holmes. You turned yourself into a whore.”

I was half looking forward to seeing this but not anymore. Another pathetic case of imposing the sensibilities and obsessions of the coastal elite on the past. You know why 300 was so successful. It avoided all this crap and told a great story of universal values of bravery, manhood, and sacrifice.

I think this may be true. The preview had no hint of it. The wikipedia article has no hint of it. I see no reason why this would increase the box-office (quite the opposite, really).

I think this is a misunderstood joke by one or more of the principals.

If this plays out the way it’s being hyped in this article, watch for the “Iron Man” sequel box office receipts to tank.

Young men who buy tickets for action movies do NOT want to see the lead on the down low, in that movie or any other.

Or "Sherlock Holmes and the 69% Solution"

I didn’t know they made that many. I remember my parents letting me stay up late in the 70’s to watch the reruns.
