The drumbeat of discontent from the so-called "birthers" has started again. Nearly six months after President Barack Obama was inaugurated, fringe members of the conservative party are finding public platforms to argue that Obama has no right to the presidency because he does not have a valid U.S. birth certificate.
Never mind the bigoted undertones of these claims, the unspoken assertion that because Obama does not look like "us," he is not American.
Such rumors take on an even more sinister hue when birthers rant that Obama is trying to cheat "us" -- that he really was born in Kenya, and that his mother doctored the birth certificate or, more egregiously, secreted Obama to Hawaii from Kenya only days after his birth, then secured a U.S. birth certificate for her foreign-born son.
Although these claims are, at best, ludicrous, they should also compel us to consider why the Constitution bans foreign-born U.S. citizens from presidential office -- and to amend the Constitution so that questions about birth certificates and origins of birth no longer matter. In doing so, U.S. citizens, like my two sons, might be eligible for the country's highest office.

If he had a certificate of live birth rather than a stripped-down version called a certification of live birth, we’d know which hospital he was born in ...
It looks like he doesn’t want to release a Kenyan birth certificate for some reason.
5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.”
In Obama's case this failed. He has obvious divided loyalties, which can be traced back to early childhood, and he has not outgrown them. It's unfortunate that this did not prevent him from becoming President.
This is entirely a construct of liberal racists. If liberals think that Obama doesn't look like an American, that is their problem, and one that is not at all relevant to the questions surrounding Obama's actual birthplace.
I can think of several individuals who look like him that I’d be proud to vote for, WW included. And they earned their right to be President the hard way, not handed to them on a silver platter.
That depends on how the amendment is written. When the two-term restriction was added, the amendment specifically excluded anyone who was already President at the time of ratification. This probably made it easier to get it ratified.
If the repeal did not include similar language, it would be seen by many as a power grab by the current President, and it would be much more difficult to get 3/4s of the states to ratify it.
God, she's an idiot.
What about the unspoken assertion that Obama is made of anti-matter?
What about the unspoken assertion that Obama has given birth to a giraffe?
Hint to Melanie: if no-one's saying something, it's automatically an 'unspoken assertion'. The fact that you are relying on things that no-one has said means that you are an unhinged fantasist.
...but it wasn't bigoted to make the same demands (COMPLIED WITH) of McCain?
Would that be something like hillary voting as a Senator from NY to raise the salary of the Secretary of State?
Hmmmmm...
