Human-Chimp Similarities: Common Ancestry or Flawed Research?

by Jeffrey Tomkins, Ph.D.*

In 2003, the human genome was heralded as a near-complete DNA sequence, except for the repetitive regions that could not be resolved due to the limitations of the prevailing DNA sequencing technologies.[1] The chimpanzee genome was subsequently finished in 2005 with the hope that its completion would provide clear-cut DNA similarity evidence for an ape-human common ancestry.[2] This similarity is frequently cited as proof of man's evolutionary origins, but a more objective explanation tells a different story, one that is more complex than evolutionary scientists seem willing to admit...

Uhhhh, were they asserting it could be done without intelligence and/or design?

I don't know. I was discussing your pointing out that.

OK...so why all the pretension, whining and liberal projection from your side whining about GGG posting where he sees fit and the majority normal people without the myriad God-hang-ups see fit?

Check the mirror. It is you that is doing all the whining and projection ...

You got an English comprehension problem or do you REALLY like meaking it up as you go?

I very clearly and most certainly DID NOT chastise you for bragging about your degrees...someone asked, you answered......or even claim you were braggin about your degrees...someone asked, you answered. I MERELY pointed out that your degrees give you exactly ZERO training in ANY field of science, although you post this pseudo-non-science nonsense and puff your chest about like you’re Albert Freakin’ Einstein. In reality, you have no freakin’ clue what you’re talking when linking to your nonsense sites and you certain ly don’t know much about the science behind what you link to.

Only uneducated dolts claim that HIV does not cause AIDS......but hey, in MY higher degree education, I actually had to learn everything there was to be known about HIV and AIDS at the time (2001) and the immune response thereof.....you know....because my Sc.D. is in Immunology of Infectious Diseases from a little known department in a little known school that happens to have what’s called the Harvard AIDS Institute.

....but education is overrated when you can just spew whatever you want and claim hollow victories all over the web.

There is no data to back up your HIV/AIDS lunacy.....but after tactic #1 of always claiming that “you’ve debunked everything a long time ago and won’t speak of it again” a la Hillary! .......tactic #2 is to always claim that “all the data is on your side” without ever having presented any data. BTW, to give you a head start, tactic #3 is to claim eeveryone that doesn’t think exactly like you do is a liberal.

That way, you not only don’t have to actually think about or know anything, you also don’t have to actually make an argument.....ever.

OK....I DID say this:

Not a very good tactic to boast about a graduate degree that has nothing to do with any topic at hand.

That is directed specifically at you puffing your chest at "Dreamer" who you claim dropped out of grad school......as if your degree has something to do with any topic at hand. M.S. in Molecular Biology is not "dropping out of grad school"....it's "not getting a PhD."....but then you'd not have much to say.

And you would know how Jesus feels about that how?

It’s really rather hypocritical and transparent when someone who has no use for Christ invokes Him in an attempt to manipulate others behavior.

Of course, anyone who wishes to read my posts of this thread will clearly see I have not brought up abiogenesis as a topic of discussion.

Really? Perhaps you should re-read your own #134 on this thread which clearly and specifically brings up abiogenesis as an objection to the ToE and as a topic of discussion.

Talk Origins is a site dedicated to deception and lies disguised as truth- they are NOT a reputable scientific site by any means- and htose pointing to it show hteir lack of research and interest in intellectual honesty:

“Q: “I thought evolution was just a theory. Why do you call it a fact?”

Talk Origin’s ‘Answer’ A: “Biological evolution is a change in the genetic characteristics of a population over time. That this happens is a fact. Biological evolution also refers to the common descent of living organisms from shared ancestors. The evidence for historical evolution—genetic, fossil, anatomical, etc.—is so overwhelming that it is also considered a fact. The theory of evolution describes the mechanisms that cause evolution. So evolution is both a fact and a theory.”

True Origin’s Response R: Clearly there would not be a creation-evolution controversy if it were universally agreed and adhered to that evolution meant solely “a change in the genetic characteristics of a population over time.” There is a creation-evolution controversy (a major one at that) precisely because evolution means far more than what TO leads its readers to believe here. The controversy exists because evolution—the full-fledged manifestation of evolution (including Neo-Darwinian macro-evolution)—is for many a metaphysical belief that elevates the philosophy of materialistic naturalism (hailing purely natural laws and processes, including time and chance, as our “creators”), and dismissing God (a Creator with purpose) as an irrelevant product of superstition.

After all, why is it that so many people are offended by the theory of evolution to the point of fiercely opposing it? Why is it that emotions run so high and intellectual battles persist? Because of ignorance? Hardly! Although there will always be uninformed people on both sides of any dispute, a great many well-educated people in science, mathematics and other disciplines are among those who disagree adamantly with the precepts of evolution. Evolution is offensive because it is bad science and is as equally bad a metaphysic—in short, on close examination, evolution fails on all counts. There is a controversy precisely because of clashing metaphysics—the same type of conflict that exists when Christian theology comes face-to-face with Islam, Buddhism, or even atheism, to name just a few popular counter-Christian belief systems.

Despite all of this, TO promotes the view that the creation-evolution controversy is a war of ‘religion versus science’—‘emotion versus reason.’ This view is held mostly out of ignorance, but there are undoubtedly those within the TO organization that understand the matter well enough to know better. However, TO does very little to educate its audience on the philosophical foundation of its position. This is deception by omission.”

http://www.trueorigin.org/to_deception.asp

Q: “Doesn’t evolution violate the second law of thermodynamics? After all, order cannot come from disorder.”

TO answer A: “Evolution does not violate the second law of thermodynamics. Order emerges from disorder all the time. Snowflakes form, trees grow, and embryos develop, etc.”

True Origin’s Response R: TO is here propagating one of the most odious of all myths in the creation-evolution controversy, this being that the creationist argument involving the second law of thermodynamics is either invalid or has been amply refuted. This is simply not true.
The essential information that TO is either ignorant of (or is concealing from its readers) is that when snowflakes form they do so according to thermodynamic principles that produce patterns (i.e., symmetric crystalline structures) that are far from the asymmetric, far more complex structures required for life. What’s more, symmetric structures occur naturally because thermodynamic equilibrium is a natural state. On the other hand, life—any life—is actually a departure from thermodynamic equilibrium; a significant departure that requires large amounts of directed energy to be sustained, according to requirements defined in advance by every organism’s genetic code.

Similarly, the example of “trees grow and embryos develop” is again an oversimplification based on either ignorance on the part of TO, or a willful concealing of the whole truth from their readers. The point is not that organisms grow but how they are able to grow. The typical, shortsighted response is that “they are receiving energy from the sun—it is an open system and this energy provides the fuel for growth”. Recently, Harvard’s own Ernst Mayr served up precisely this “open system” explanation in his latest book, What Evolution Is [Basic Books, 2001, page 8]. True, energy is being supplied but the main point is being missed (intentionally?).

Let’s take a blow torch to a tree or an embryo, thereby supplying it with plenty of energy, and then let’s stand back and watch them grow. Of course, what’ll happen is they will be incinerated! Energy is not the key; energy reception, utilization and storage is the key. In other words, there must be a highly sophisticated and fully functional energy management system—a system that enables input, conversion, storage and output—if a tree is to grow or an embryo is to develop. This is the crux of the creationist argument involving the second law of thermodynamics and not some easily discarded strawman. Why doesn’t TO present the real issue and respond to it? Deception by omission.

It’s really rather hypocritical and transparent when someone who has no use for Christ invokes Him in an attempt to manipulate others behavior.

I have no doubt that you already know enough about the claims of Christ to make a decision already. Throwing it back on others because they don’t kowtow to your idea of what a Christian should be like is merely blameshifting.

If someone is going to claim that “As is your style you make a comment then refuse to support it then when called on it you throw insults and generally act like a 13 year old” is going to keep them from becoming a Christian, then they’re just looking for excuses to not make that decision.

I can see it now....

evo to God: I rejected Christ because I thought that tpanther didn’t support his comment, and I thought he insulted me, and I thought that he generally acted like a 13 year old. WWAAAHHHH....

riiight.....

Guess you have a different set of rules for yourself than those that you hold other to. Have you thought about applying for a czar position in DC?

So that's what it takes to be a member in good standing over at DC? No thanks, I'll pass.

“Here’s a clue for you ZULU, any source that has “evolution fact” in the link....simply won’t be worth a normal person’s time.”

Glad you have such an open mind. It explains your persepctive on biology.

“I would say even a liberal should be able to understand this but...I’d be lying. ;)”

NOT a liberal. Read my posts. :(

Soooo because I don’t look at your site that’s obviously dishonest, (see Cottshop’s confirmation), then I’m closed minded.

Because I point out stupid liberal tactics of shutting down debate, I’m shutting down debate.

And then you people squeal you’re not liberals and want to know how normal people come up with the obeservations you’re liberals.

Reading your posts is how people conclude you’re very much a liberal!

In the liberal world, up is down, down is up.

I have two degrees in the biological sciences and I got them back in the 1960’s and 1970’s. I have NEVER - that’s NEVER - met a professional biologist who doesn’t accept evolution. They may argue about the finer points of the process but NO ONE who is a serious biologist questions the idea that organisms evolve in to new species over time.

ALOT of people have BS degrees ZULU my major was biology for 3 years before I joined the Air Force.

Hardly the point. The point is evolution’s failure to progress beyond what it has already and competing ideas of intelligence and design deserve to be heard.

I’ve met journmalists who actually think they’re performing journalism. Lawyers that are doing anything and everything but following the law outside their own enrichment.

You should get out more.

I do have to ask, why is it that when ever people reply to me they have to include 2 to 10 people in the To: field?

Do I really intimidate that much that it requires notifying the entire *group*?
