SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) Unemployment hit 9.5 percent in June, according to the Department of Labor, putting the figure 2.5 percent higher than the White House had predicted it would be if a government stimulus spending program went into place. Moreover, the new figure is nearly one percent higher than where the White House said it would be without any stimulus spending at all.
In fact, the White House never predicted that unemployment would rise above nine percent regardless of whether Congress spent the nearly $800 billion in so-called economic stimulus spending it recommended at the time.
The predictions came from a Jan. 10, 2009, report issued by Christina Romer, now chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, and Jared Bernstein, currently Vice President Joe Bidens chief economist. The administration used the report as both a blueprint and a justification for the $787-billion spending package Obama signed in February."
SNIPPET: "Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said that the record high unemployment was a sign that Obamas signature legislation had been a failure and added that more spending was not the answer to a deepening economic crisis."

Why of COURSE!
This Rat Congress is going to pay through the (electoral) nose for this folly.
I wish I shared that sentiment. However, the mainstream press (including the alternate liberal press, such as Bill Mahr, Jon Stewart, etc.) will tell most of the people in the country that it really WOULD have been worse. They will then blame Republicans for not working harder to help the Demonrats get the economy going. Sadly, I fear that most of the sheeple will buy that line.
I hope I am wrong and that you are right.
If we don't get Congress back in November 2010, our Republic is done for.
I really have always believed that the public perception of the general economy is shaped by personal observation more than by the national media telling us what the numbers are. People see and hear their own stories; I think what we’re seeing and hearing doesn’t seem too good , no matter how Axelrod spins it. A wave of increased state and local tax increases is going to start reinforcing that soon.
Christina Romer, now chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, and she still has the job? oh wait another Obama logic plan what a bunch of fools.
Bush and the Hastert/Lott Congress increased spending more than LBJ.
Half speed socialists RINO’s need to go. Unfortunately they are the cadre of the RNC/GOP.

Can't have mere "facts & figures" interfere with their beloved "narrative," can we?
That Must be why the Obamas Children are moonlighting as Models ,to bring in some extra cash
You’re kidding? The same children who they’re so “careful to shield from the public eye?” (When convenient)
Perhaps in raw dollars without adjustment for inflation. I think the appropriate measure is as a percentage of GDP. I doubt they increased spending by more than LBJ relative to GDP.
I've seen a chart of the Federal debt relative to GDP. The only spikes are during world war II, FDR, and in projections under Obama.
I agree. However, Obama is still in his honeymoon phase with the American public. He benefits from the perception he inherited a bad situation from Bush and is being given credit for trying.
Six months from now Bush will be a faded memory if unemployment is in double digits and still climbing. The hundreds of thousands of private sector employees downsized in the 4th quarter of 2008 and first 6 months of 2009 will be coming to the end of their unemployment benefits in 6 months. If unemployment is still rising and they can’t find jobs they will be angry with Obama and not Bush. Assuming rising unemployment means no recovery in consumer demand, companies will likely be executing another wave of employment downsizings in the fall. Those who are employed will look at their unemployed neighbors and fear the axe. The “hope” inspired by Obama will turn to fear. Conditions will be ripe for Obama and his legislative majority in Congress to become the focus of blame.
A lot depends on the ability of the opposition to come together and stay on a message that offers a real alternative. The Republicans demonstrated this ability in 1994 with the Contract for America. Today the Republican Party has no message and is allowing the opposition to define it. Leadership and a real message is needed to take advantage of the opportunities coming to awaken the American people.

On the opposite side, there is no reason to delay shrinking a business. In fact there is even reason to accelerate layoffs as things are now because there is a chance that future legislation will make it more difficult or expensive to do that.
Great charts.
Good points.
They’ve only released less than 10% of the “stinuloss” money. The ostammer administration has possession of all that money to fund all their pet leftist groups and projects, and we’re not doing a damn thing to stop it.
The other part of the equation is cap and tax. The way that fits in with unemployment is that they’re selling cap and tax as a boon to employment with all these supposed green jobs that will be created. Meanwhile, even though the ostammer administration has released less than 10% of the stimuloss, they are already nosing the trough for more. There has been recent talk about “Stimulous II”.
They want more, yet they still have 90% that they’re hording for themselves and their political friends.
It’s the biggest theft the world has ever seen. Meanwhile, they sent Bernie Madoff to prison for 150 years for doing essentially the same thing for considerably less money.
