Civilian employees with the City of Dallas are worried about impending layoffs and they are asking the city council to look for other ways to cut the city's budget.
In all, nearly 800 could lose their jobs, effective October 1st.
Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm's current budget proposal doesn't include laying off any sworn personnel - such as police officers and firefighter/paramedics.

They could lay off half the stupid c**ts in the Tax Office and not affect service levels at all. Half the time I go in there most of the clerks are sitting around doing nothing (while there’s a line waiting to be served).
If they do lay them off, Im sending a thank you card to Mary.
I work for the tax office in another county and we hear complaints about Dallas all the time. Customers who come to our office often comment about how fast they get their work finished. The dealers hate going to the Dallas office too but unfortunately, they have little choice. The work must be done be either the buyer’s or seller’s county so if both are located in Dallas, tough luck.
Dallas County has about 9 or 10 different offices too. They could shut half of them down and nobody would even notice.
It seems as if the Dallas government has the right idea by getting rid of pointless paperpushing jobs at city hall.
Most governments would rather layoff cops and firefighters and other critical services- to get public sympathy for the idea of tax increases.
There’s three offices that aren’t too bad - the rest are abysmal.
Even in those three offices, man - while the clerks manning the counter are pleasant enough, half the staff at any given time appears to be on break.
I’ve heard that if it is their break time, they will just get up and leave the work station, not even completing the title or registration, whichever they are working on. I’d be ashamed to do something like that (although I realize they do have scheduled break times and lunch times). If I know I’m scheduled to go to lunch in 5 minutes, I simply do not call a title customer. Instead I’ll call a registration which doesn’t take nearly as long. It’s just a matter of common sense.
Like I said, the dealers HATE going there.

The City of Dallas has bigger fish to fry than operating an efficient city govt and enhancing the city’s appeal. You know, like finding a downtown thoroughfare to attach the name of a Mexican farm worker who has no ties to Dallas whatsoever.
Something wicked that way comes.

Mark Davis was talking about this on Thursday. He said that since the Ross Ave. businesses raised such a stink about changing the name, the new target street is Young St.
Ironically, the new city-owned hotel is supposed to be on Young St.
I wonder how many conventioneers are going to book a room in a hotel on Che Guevara St.?
Dallas is a joke.
