The unemployment rates in eight states hit record-highs last month and only two -- Nebraska and Vermont -- did not report increases.

The Labor Department says 48 states and the District of Columbia saw employment conditions deteriorate last month. The fallout from the longest recession since World War II, was the worst in Michigan. Its unemployment rate rose to 14.1 percent.

The eight states that set records are: California, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia.

The West region reported the highest jobless rate at 10.1 percent. The last time any region had a rate of at least 10 percent was September 1983, when the country was emerging from a severe recession.

Nebraska's jobless rate dipped last month, Vermont's was flat.

The stimulus bill IS doing exactly what it was intended to do. The problem is, what they told us it was for was not the actual intended purpose (Obama lied). But most of us on this forum already knew that, didn't we?

And BO’s entire economic policy is based on projections that the unemployment rate would not exceed 8% this year. Fire the men with the cracked crystal balls. That would be Rahm Emanuel and Austan Goolsby.

Didn't Bambi just say the other day that we're 'backing away from the brink' and that you "ain't seen nothing yet!" ?

Just keep talking yourself out of a job, Oh-butt-muh. The sooner, the better.

How Bad Will it Get?

Well this is going to be hard to confirm since it is likely that the MSM will under report the facts but how about 16% unemployment and 15% prime by spring 2011?

It won’t take that long to hit 15%.

That is the question isn’t it? and I don’t think it will take that long to hit 15%

For the real unemployment rate you can add 8% to 10% to the published figures.

we are already there. take todays numbers, double them and you have actual unemployment, not the number they are willing to report.

Temp workers, people running out of benefits and leaving the roles but are still unemployed, teenagers who are not collecting, those who have been denied benefits for one reason or another, and people like me, who work on a free lance or contract basis and report via 1099’s. We can’t collect unemployment, we are not employees. We are already close to 20% when you factor in everyone, especially those who have given up looking. They can spin it any way they want, but we are almost at the great depression levels of 25 percent. It won’t take much more to get there, probably right after the non existent christmas season.

We won’t know. The ‘official’ numbers are cooked.

Buy votes, of course!
The only business going now is getting government contracts. The rest are just SOL. Especially with Obama’s agenda.

Wasn’t the unemployment rate during the Great Depression? Then how could 8 states hit record highs?

I don’t really know what to attribute my observations to, in the Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem area of NC, but commuter traffic has picked back up in the past month, more truck traffic, too. We’ve been hit very hard for over a year, unemployment above the state average up until this month. We’re now “only” 10.4%, compared to state average 11.2%. A Fed Ex hub opened near GSO last month, Dell near W-S is bringing back over 100 laid off employees ... it’s still pretty dire, obviously, but at least the free fall appears to have halted. For now at least.

Yep, here in Oregon in JUST the last week the legislature passed a 733Million $ tax hike.

Raise taxes in a recession with unemployment at 12.9 % F&^%#$G BRILLIANT. That ought to work just great don’t you think? /sarc as if I need it.
