CAIRO — The official word is that nothing has been decided about where President Obama will give his speech when he visits Cairo next Thursday to address the Muslim world.
It is supposed to be a secret.
There are, of course, matters of security for the president of the United States when he comes to visit this crowded, chaotic city on the Nile filled with quite a few people who hold a good deal of animosity for the United States.
But it is not a secret.
Right outside the gates of the university, vendors selling items from small kiosks said they had more pragmatic concerns than East-West relations. That is often the case in a country where about half the population struggles to survive on less than $2 a day.
“I am trying to get a birth certificate to get a job,” said Samia Abdel Hafiz, 52, as her 9-year-old daughter peddled tissues to students on the street. “Whenever I apply for a job they ask me for the birth certificate. Maybe Obama can help get my paperwork through.”

Seriously, the speech will be a few hundred yards from the pyramids. Photos will be taken from a low angle so you can see Pharoh-bama towering over them.
Run for US president.
Prediction: Obama will of course speak from a mosque, and before the assembled faithful, be carried by a heavenly stallion to the “third mosque” where another ceremony will take place ushering in a “new age.”
He’s more at home there among his kind.
