In times past, coalminers working in the depths of the earth took along caged canaries. As long as the canaries warbled, the miners knew they were safe from the methane and carbon monoxide that would kill them in minutes. But when the tiny songbirds stopped singing, the miners knew to run for their lives.

Obama will destroy Israel by bowing to its - and our - enemies. But will those who voted for him realize it in time?

I’ll never understand why Jews in America vote DemoncRAT.
He got 81% of the Jewish vote in 2008.
Destroying Israel might be a successful political strategy for the American Left.
Most of Israel's refugees would have to emigrate to the USA, where, no doubt, an overwhelming majority would also vote for the Democratic Party.
My in-laws are Jewish and Democrat but were Republicans up until the time the GOP started advocating the social conservative agenda. They were turned off by the push for school prayer and are not all that excited about the Christian fundamentalist view of Israel and Jews that live there.
They like the jack-islamist take on judaism better?
“My in-laws are Jewish and Democrat but were Republicans up until the time the GOP started advocating the social conservative agenda. They were turned off by the push for school prayer and are not all that excited about the Christian fundamentalist view of Israel and Jews that live there.”
I've been voting for 40 years, and I can't recall a time when the GOP did NOT advocate a conservative social agenda and school prayer.
I grew up in south Florida, and at least 10% of my public school classmates were Jewish.
As late as 1962, in public school, we started each day reciting the Pledge, the Lord's Prayer, and the 23rd Psalm.
On Friday's the cafeteria served only fish because the Catholics couldn't eat meat.
On Ash Wednesday the Catholics got 2 hours to go to church, and all of them had ash-smeared foreheads the rest of the day.
Many of the Jewish kids wore yarmulkes, and almost all the Christian girls wore a Cross.
No one, and I mean no one, adults or kids, thought anything about this.
All of it was completely accepted, never even talked about.
As to the Christian fundamentalist view of Israel, that is the ONLY good political news Israel has had since Israel won the 1973 War.
If “European Fundamentalists” ever have their way, there will be 5 million Israelis swimming for their lives in the Mediterranean Sea.
It’s true that believing Christians turn off Jews. But it’s also true that no one else on this planet gives a damn about them.
“Unrequited love, how sad.” I believe that was a line from the movie Ben Hur.
It is an odd choice to turn from a meek (the Republicans have never been as defiantly demanding as Democrats) endorsement of prayer in school to acceptance and encouragement of homosexuality and murder of unborn children in the form of ‘abortion’. As for a Christian fundamentalist view of Israel and Jews, I don’t know what the hell that is. As far as I’ve seen from Christians that I’ve known, Israel has always been supported. Frankly, your inlaws are feeding you some horse manure if you ask me - they were never Republicans.
I can’t understand it either. I have two jewish sons in laws and finally confronted one and asked him why. He is a smart, intellectual guy and his answer was that his Rabbi said even with the dems being antisemitic, they were better off than with republicans.
It is like Catholics too,,they voted for Obama.
I think the social progressive notion they have about dems trumps their very existance.
I told my son in law that I was the only jewish person in the family,,the only damned one who thought about my grandchildren and the holocaust and what could happen to them. It really made me mad,,not for them but for the grandchildren who need their protection.
he got 80 plus % of the jewish vote, they knew what they were getting.
hsalaw,
Had American Jews supported McLame’s sorry rino ass by the same percentages they did the magic negro then Israel would not be being pushed.
In 1961's northern Florida, we included one reading from the New Testament, rotating the readings among students.
The Bible was handed to me, a newcomer to the South. After leafing through the Bible to keep my reading "simple", I read from the Old Testament in error.

Then I attended the University of Miami in 1962still another wakeup!

Ayers, Wright push Mideast peace
May 17, 2009 9:04 PM | 2 Comments | UPDATED STORY
The day before President Barack Obama was to meet with Israel’s prime minister, community activists, clergy and residents marched through Oak Park to to call for a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
And they were led in their efforts by a politically provocative pair from Chicago: Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. and William Ayers.
The two men shared the stage for one of the first times at First United Church of Oak Park during a forum before the annual walk.

There is just so much ignorance in this one sentence. Why would anyone continue reading an article like this?

Have you ever read Mien Kampf? Hitler hardly made his goals a secret.
Actually, yes. (And maybe my grandmother read it too. She came here in 1936 to make arrangements to leave Germany, and then she brought the family out in 1938. My father was already studying abroad to keep him, her only child, out of Germany for two years by then.)
Yes. I read it. But I wonder if you read what I quoted back, or if you are just really ignorant of history. There weren't six million Jews in Germany to have said, "It can't happen here." Most of the six million who were killed formerly lived in the overrun nations. Germany was home to only to several hundred thousand Jews.
It's only a small point but no one else seems to claim six million non-Jews were killed or German. (The best estimate seems to be that a total of five million non-Jews were killed, German and mostly non-German.)
And as for the largest mass-murder in history, apparently neither you nor the author has heard of Uncle Joe Stalin or the beloved Chairman Mao. Your comment here brings to mind a review of a book about Soviet history that appear in National Review many years ago: "This book makes The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich seem like Restoration comedy."
