The fact you lost your job sucks. That said, intentionally not looking for work to "starve the beast" is a puzzling decision. Our economy is NOT directed by the government...it's directed by the productivity of the American people.

True. I'm taking actions there too, cutting my spending, doing my part to try to keep the economy down. That's certainly independent of the income side of the equation.

I guess a factor in my decision is observation of government spending over the years. While not as responsive as private businesses, there is at least SOME tendency by the various levels of government to rein in spending when their tax collections are low. At the state level they're not talking about building more sports stadiums, and at the federal level, some people are at least paying lip service to the notion that we can't afford all the spending they're proposing. Nobody would be saying that if times were good.

What will you do when you run out of savings?

Time will tell, I guess. The only thing we can know for sure about the future is that it will be different than we expect. I'm weighing my options but haven't decided on a course of action. In the meantime, I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing, at least partly because I feel it will help lead to a change.

Correct. Thusly the fall of the Soviet Union.

Communism came about because people only had a 1/2 cup of rice left in their food bowl. Russia shed communism because things were getting better and they wanted let loose from the shackles of gov't and wanted freedom.

Re my post #75. Obama promises funding for unemployed to return to school. I went through ALL of the steps. I applied for federal funding to continue my education and it said I do not qualify.

I am NOT a millionaire. Obama is a liar.

So what happens when you run out of money? Who is going to feed your face? Who are you going to have to beg or mooch off of if you stick to your principles and don't ask for gov't help? What happens when your healthcare runs out and you accidently chop off your arm cutting your firewood? Who will pay for that?

You ask a lot of questions based on unproven premises 1) that I'm going to run out of money without figuring out ways to adapt, and 2) I'm going to chop my arm off.

If you're so fearful about the future, I have to wonder if if you think it would be better for there to be MORE socialism, to take away the uncertaintees about having a job.

Right now I'm paying for my own health insurance, I'm not begging or mooching off anyone, and I'm not asking the government for help.... and yet it sounds like you consider me to be a bad person somehow.

Dear Leader is on TV with his daily propaganda speech.

He just said that a Mother in Michigan wrote him to say she and her husband can't make ends meet, but vows to work 24 hrs a day to send her children to college.

Yes, he is a LIAR.

Well I just went to whitehouse.gov and wrote him here.

I gave my name and where I live at the most and told him I just filed for the FAFSA loan to continue my education and was turned down-flat. I told him I am not rich. I did not tell him I suspect I was discriminated upon because I am not black. But I was...

"I did not tell him I suspect I was discriminated upon because I am not black. But I was.

Why didn't you? White people are being discriminated all over the place, yet we feel we can't open our mouths about it? We're soon going to be in the minority...then what? Will we get in on equal opportunity advancements?

But seriously, you should get your information to Rush. He'd love to prove Obama is full of BS.

Actually in filling out the federal funding for continued education application Obama is promoting in the news. (SEE POST 75) I was asked if I was on welfare or foodstamps.I do believe because I am not this disqualified me as well as my race.

You are absolutely right. I have gone through a few down sizing and was never on the chopping block. I know people would come to me and say that they can't believe so and so was let go. My response has always been that I don't know the work habits of so and so, but of those I do know, I have not seen a mistake made.

I always amazes me that some people think they are working hard just because they show up for work. I too am in IT, and know how hard it is to find good people to fill available slots. The one thing I have to say is that degrees do not necessarily correlate with ability to do the job.

Sounds like you did a good job saving.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I guess I have a different philosophy. I believe that if we can get the economy righted before the stimulus really kicks in we might have a chance to reverse some of the craziness coming out of the White House and Congress. That’s why I’m happy to see some of the negative trends slowing down. Obama wants things to tank further so he can continue to advance his agenda. With no crisis, he’ll get much more resistance to his kooky and ill-conceived plans. If the crisis deepens, bar-the-doors, ‘cause he’ll likely get whatever he wants. That will not be good for Conservatism, me personally, or the future of my kids.

Nice try by the MSM. The figures include the government hiring 72k people. Therefore, the private sector lost 611k jobs.

I guess we'll just have to disagree on what causes lead to what effects. Everything I've ever heard over the years suggests that people blame the people in charge in government when the economy is bad or getting worse, and give them credit when the economy is good or getting better.

I'll agree that the bigger the crisis, the more stuff they'll try to push thorough, but I also believe that the more stuff they try to push through, the more people will be vocal in their resistance. You never heard about Tea Parties in the past, when they were heading us off the same cliff, just doing it slower.
