Obama claims 90 percent of guns recovered in Mexico come from U.S.

With growing violence on the U.S.-Mexico border fueled by powerful drug cartels, officials from both countries have been repeating a shocking statistic to suggest this isn't just a Mexican problem.

But Obama, Clinton and others have left out important qualifiers when citing the 90 percent statistic, which originates from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The agency doesn't have statistics for all weapons in Mexico, where gun sales are largely prohibited; it is based on only guns that the Mexican government sent to the ATF for tracing and that the ATF found were traceable.

You speak the truth. I’ve never understood why the American Press continues to lie in the face of truth. It makes NO economic sense to assume that millionaire drug gangs need to get their armament one piece at a time from multiple firearms dealers in the USA. Buy in bulk from a Foreign Mfgr. and have it shipped to a port of your convenience in any South American country.

Sho nuff. 90% of those submitted were tracable back to the US. Well how about that. Here’s how that works. Illegals steal a handgun from somone who legally purchased it here in the US. It is carried back across the border and when they are done with it or need to get rid of it, it is pitched. Then it is found and shock! It is tracable to the US. How do they plan to address handgun killings happening on this side of the border by illegals who have stolen a handgun here? As for the automatic weapons, these have been under Federal control since 1935. So now we are to believe that a law on the books for over 70 years is innefective? Our dims and their media are just opportunists who are working toward people control, not gun control.

A caller to a talk show here in San Diego said he grew up in the lefty/hippie environment and participated in drug buying from Mexicans.

Guns, he said, was the currency. Guns for drugs. So, yeah, the guns probably did come from U.S.

“Well shucks if that’s the case and all those confiscated guns came from the U.S., I think they should be recycled into our economy—some of those guns are getting hard to find!”

I was thinking along those same lines, myself.

From the photos I've seen, most of them look like they were MADE here. This doesn't mean they were sold directly to Mexican cartels.

They sure as hell didn't pick up live frag grenades and full auto toyz at the local Bait-n-Gun or Gun Show.

I read where this 90% figure comes from.

They are 90% of a set of GUNS ALREADY SUSPECTED AS LIKELY TO HAVE COME FROM THE USA.

Those without serial numbers are not submitted for testing, and neither are those that are not available for purchase.

So, exclude all of the ones that can’t be traced or can’t possibly have come from the USA, get the rest traced, and

VOILA (pronounce Voy Lah)

you have a statistic useful for gungrabbers.

And what percent of illegal drugs sold or confiscated in America come from Mexico?

Please read that post again, There was no confirmation that 90% of guns came from US as you imply. it was a cryptic comment.

They should try and make the point of the hypocrisy of the “0”. He wants to get rid of our weapons, but when that is happening,by them being exported to Mexico, he is sad and wants to ban weapons here.

I implied 90%??? No Sir.
Here's your post:
“90% of the American made guns conficated by the Mexicans came from the US. Where did the other 10% come from ?”

You STATED 90%, not me. If it was a sarcasm, it didn't have any indication thereof.

My point was that the actual percentage was 17%, not 90%.
