Obama claims 90 percent of guns recovered in Mexico come from U.S.

With growing violence on the U.S.-Mexico border fueled by powerful drug cartels, officials from both countries have been repeating a shocking statistic to suggest this isn't just a Mexican problem.

But Obama, Clinton and others have left out important qualifiers when citing the 90 percent statistic, which originates from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The agency doesn't have statistics for all weapons in Mexico, where gun sales are largely prohibited; it is based on only guns that the Mexican government sent to the ATF for tracing and that the ATF found were traceable.

It's good to see that this information is getting disseminated wider. When liberal journalists are forced to admit inconvenient information and take a look at it, no matter how they do so, it's a good thing for us.

In this case, these a$$hats portray this as a fox news vs obama thing, as opposed to trying to actually do some journalism....... but that's ok. The admission of inconvenient facts is a big part of the problem.

Where it says, WHERE GUNS ARE LARGELY PROHIBITIED, should say WHERE GUNS ARE COMPLETELY PROHIBITYED. Don’t EVER get caught in Mexico in your home with a gun trying to defend yourselves. GUNS, my dear are only for the crooked. Only paper and wooden guns like those used in the Revolution of 1911 are used, and that for parades..for the school kids.

Even if guns in Mexico do come from the US that is not a reason to further encroach upon our Constitutional rights, but thats what they want to use it for.

“Obama Repeats ‘90 Percent’ Stat for U.S. Guns Recovered in Mexico
The White House stands by the president’s use of the word “recovered” in describing the role firearms smuggled from the U.S. play in Mexico’s drug war.”

By Major Garrett
FOXNews.com
Sunday, April 19, 2009

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago —

SNIPPET: “In 2007-2008, according to ATF Special Agent William Newell, Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF for tracing. Those 11,000 firearms were part of the 29,000 firearms Mexican officials recovered at crime scenes. According to the ATF, of the 11,000 submitted to U.S. officials for tracing, 6,000 could be traced somewhere because of the serial numbers or other distinctive markings. Of those 6,000 firearms, 5,114 or 90 percent, were found to have been smuggled from the U.S.

The White House stands by the president’s use of the word “recovered” in describing the role firearms smuggled from the U.S. play in Mexico’s drug war.

“We feel good about these numbers and that’s why the president uses the word recovered,” McDonough said.

Just to repeat: recovered doesn’t mean the percentage of all firearms confiscated at Mexican crime scenes. It doesn’t mean the subset of these firearms traceable to any source. It does mean the percentage of traceable weapons linked to a U.S. source. And, again, that total is 5,114 out of 29,000 — or 17.6 percent — in the years 2007 and 2008.”

“The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S.
While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico.”

SNIPPET: “There’s just one problem with the 90 percent “statistic” and it’s a big one:

It’s just not true.

In fact, it’s not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.”

...you can always tell when a liberal talking point surfaces. They all stick with the same number..like 90%, no matter where you read about it, it's 90%. Like 45 million uninsured Americans.....does that number take in 15-20 million illegals?....see another set of numbers..15-20m but they qualify that number with the statement, WE really don't know how many. So if I start to say, 95% of the US CONGRESS either don't know how to read, or they don't give a rats a$$ about the American citizen and care more about getting the illegals vote, would I be consistent?

“The Guns Of Calderon”
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Friday, April 17, 2009 4:20 PM PT

SNIPPET: “Weapons: Reporting on President Obama’s visit to Mexico, the Washington Post parrots both governments’ line that 90% of guns confiscated from the drug lords originate in the U.S. They’re all shooting blanks.”

Read More: Latin America & Caribbean

SNIPPET: “Ed Head, a firearms instructor in Arizona who spent 24 years with the U.S. Border Patrol, recently displayed an array of “assault rifles” that are similar to those recovered in Mexico, but are unavailable for sale in the U.S.
“These kinds of guns — the auto versions of these guns — they are not coming from El Paso,” Head told Fox News. “They are coming from other sources. They are brought in from Guatemala. They are brought in from places like China. They are being diverted from the military. But you don’t get these guns from the U.S.”

The Mexican drug cartels gross an estimated $40 billion annually. They don’t need to scour roadside American gun shows for their weapons. Neither do American politicians or the media need to fudge the numbers — unless this is preparing the way to stricter gun control.

After all, as someone once said, never waste a good crisis.”

That to me is the elephant in the living room; what the liberal media is ignoring.

But whenever the gun grabbers come out they never seem to actually target criminals. It’s always the law abiders.

The figures are false, it doesn't matter, and I don't give a damn anyway, it is no reason for me to surrender my freedom.

I ordered some of my prescriptions from a Canadian Pharmacy. They've been shipped, but I'm told they are hung up in US Customs, and may be there for 3 weeks.

We have sealed the wrong damned border!

I didn’t care at first either. But I’ve seen far too many liberal journalists repeat this 90% lie without question.

That goes too far in my book. Once the liberal media gloms onto it and makes it a full fledged talking point, it must be fought and defeated.

Let's see if I can follow this logic:

The United States and Mexican governments cannot secure the shared border.

Some American firearms are being smuggled into Mexico and are being used by criminals there.

American citizens, therefore, must have their right to keep and bear arms infringed because the U.S. and Mexican governments cannot secure the border nor stop massive criminal activities in Mexico.

A complete ban on gun sales in the U.S. would stop criminal use of prohibited firearms in Mexico because there is no other source of illegal firearms in the world other than the U.S. despite the fact there are known to be about 100 million foreign-made AK-47's throughout the world.

If American firearms could not be legally sold to Americans, Mexican drug gangs would stop killing people with firearms. Also, no American accomplices would smuggle banned firearms into Mexico anymore.

I care about the lies and their effect, I just don't care how many Mexicans kill each other any more. I just have more important issues to consider.

Mexico has been there for a long time, plenty long enough to get their act together. They must like it the way it is.
