Hey y'all,
I am in the process of negotiating with the Gaylord Palms hotel to hold our Freeper Convention there on April 25. We can get a rate of $99 per night (which is a great rate for this really nice hotel) and the convention room will be complimentary.
For that rate they are asking for us to block a minimum of 40 rooms; if some people are staying both Friday and Saturday nights that would count as 2 rooms. The contract will be written such that if all 40 rooms are not picked up we would have to pay the difference. So, for example, if only 10 rooms were actually reserved the person signing the contract (me) would owe them $2970. I told them those terms were not acceptable, but they seem to be willing to work out some other terms if I can get them a firm number on how many guest rooms will be reserved.
Please mail me by Friday, 3/27/09, and let me know if you will be staying at the hotel and for how many nights. Without getting committments from you I feel uncomfortable agreeing to even 10 rooms, though I hope we have a better showing than that!
The convention will be on April 25, a Saturday, from 8am to 6pm. Room reservations for Friday and Saturday will count towards our minimum number required.
Hey, y’all - have you seen this thread? Ya gotta come! Jump in the water! !:-O
The regional freeper convention is going to be held in the Gaylord Palms Hotel in Kissimmee. It's just off I-4....easy to get to, great parking.
The room rate is astounding for this spectacular meeting place! You don't book right now, just let Roos know right now if you're definitely going to go. We need 50 intents of bookings right now to get the terrific room rate and the free meeting facilities.
There's all kinds of on-site recreational facilities at our convention hotel. Five restaurants ranging from casual to gourmet,........beautiful, breathtaking gardens under glass.......2 pools, and, believe it or not, live gator feedings right before your very eyes!
If you want to go somewhere on Sunday before you hit the road for home, you can go nearby to any of the Disney attraction, Sea World, Universal Studios, MGM Studios and more.
What a great weekend this can be....freeper fellowship, an info-packed convention, dinners in all price ranges and maybe some poolside adult beverages under the starry Florida sky with old and new freeper buddies!
Indicate that you're coming and for how many nights to Roos_Girl on this thread. A lot of us will be there on Friday night for hamburgers by the pool.....we'll save some seats for you!

I’ve got a conference room included with our package. It will be set up in a classroom style for us and there will be plenty of room for people that want to go to the convention, but aren’t staying overnight at the hotel.
Hopefully the people that you know that are interested in coming are Free Republic members? If not, maybe you could get them to register (since it’s FREE) before they join us.
I haven’t been to this hotel before, but looks like there’s plenty of great places to quench your thrist! :)
Looking forward to meeting up with you again.
Good luck with the little one. We’ll make sure to update everyone who couldn’t make it with our usual “after action report”.
Very generous, surfer! Thank you!
I won’t be staying the night, got babies (dogs) to take care of at home, but I can probably be talked into a poolside dinner with you on my way home from work!
Great! Glad you’ll be joining us!

I want the freeper convention to last a week, maybe forever, LOL.
Bring your cameras, guys and dolls.
Roos will be posting the official room rate soon. What a GREAT deal we're getting as anyone who travels in this area (or anywhere across the fruited plain) knows.
Oh, man....what a place. If these pictures are an indication, I can't wait to see what the themed restaurants, even the powder rooms look like. LOL.
WHERE'S THE ALLIGATORS WE CAN FEED?
Leni
Same here...take care.
Well, It is a 60ft boat, and it is at the hotel, but it's called Sunset Sam's. /memory
Great Adam! James and I are looking forward to seeing you again! Going to be a fun time! That is after we get our work done!!:)
‘tis what makes the story of how it survived hurricane Charlie so mind boggling....most of the great service there will be glad to relate their experiences that day.
Now contact all your southern belles and beaus and come on down to the Freeper Convention in Orlando on Saturday, April 25!
Since this is a regional convention, states invited are Alabama, Georgia......and even the Carolinas. All freepers will get a warm, sunny welcome from yer hosts, the three great Florida FR Chapters.
I'm going to contact some of our FR cruisers and maybe we can have a mini-reunion!
Orlando is such a fun place to come to and relax in. There's so many attractions in and near the hotel. It'll be like being in the Caribbean again!
I'll be checking in on Friday well before dinner as will other early-bird freepers. You can bet I'll be gawking in the hotel's fabulous lobby as I watch for our freeper conventioners arriving from all points north, east, south and west.
I hope to take in Sea World after I check out of the hotel on Sunday. Then head for home whenever. Orlando is a place to linger!
It would be SO great to be with y'all again. Think about it. Why not? Who knows when a goodly amount of freepers will get together in one place again.
I'll even write an epic poem just for you to entice you to Orlando:
Y'all come down from Alabammy
Bring your Grampy and your Grammy
Freepers will greet and eat and meet
And cast a whammy on Obammy

Consider this a gold-plated invitation to each of you.
Freepers will be here from a number of southern and southeastern states....welcomed and hosted by the great All-Stars in the three Florida Chapters (we can brag as big as Texas!)
I know you're all worn and rumpled and bored and pale from living like moles in the cold weather this winter. Come to sunny, warm Orlando and have some great R & R with the wonderful and witty freeper conventioneers who'll be staying at this fabulous hotel.
Take a look at # 151 and # 154 and tell me you're not ready to start packing right now!
Hope to see you guys!
Leni/MinuteGal
One of the best things about the Gaylord Palms - for frugal folk like moi - is that there is so much to see and do at no cost at all! Just being there is the experience, IMHO! It’s sort of like Disney Village - without the mice! ;-P
