President Obama traveled to Columbus, Ohio, on Friday to hail the swearing-in of 25 new police officers who had been told after their training that the city did not have enough money to hire them.
But the good news was overshadowed by the bad as the day brought word that another 651,000 jobs were lost last month and the unemployment rate jumped to 8.1 percent.
That brings the total to 2.6 million jobs lost since Obama was elected and 4.4 million since the recession began.
"I don't need to tell the people of this state what statistics like this mean, because so many of you have been watching jobs disappear long before this recession hit," Obama said in Ohio. "And I don't need to tell this graduating class what it's like to know that your job might be next, because up until a few weeks ago, that is precisely the future that this class faced a future that millions of Americans still face right now. Well, that is not a future I accept for the United States of America."
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, speaking to reporters on Air Force One, said any suggestion that 25 new jobs are meaningless given the magnitude of the number of jobs lost is a "cynical" way to look at it.
Instead, Gibbs and Obama pointed to the stimulus package that was passed and signed into law last week as reason for hope, pointing to the 25 new police officers who would not have been sworn in Friday without it.

I noticed, during his speech, that all the jobs he listed were public sector positions. Not one single private-sector job, not one construction job.

What’s the tab for an Air Force 1 jaunt? With the dupe plane and all? Divided by 25, what’s that number?

Ah! The let's blame Bush game...
Let me tell you something here... Bush may have been a fiscal idiot and a coward... but his ability to create jobs run rings around the Zero's.
Obambi’s gearing up for the increasing crowds at the tea parties.
Some things duct tape cannot fix.
My ‘92 Purple w/silver ground effects Camaro with T-tops was ‘the Beast’. Let Barry get another name for his clunker.
I'm lost here. The stimulus was signed on Feb 13/17. Officers train for less than 3 weeks? WOW!
The stimulus is only for officer jobs?
Imagine if Bush did this, the media would have a field day at his expense. Yet Obambi gets a photo op out of it. Where is Steele with his hard hitting response to this gamesmanship?

This is good material for comedians to use
Any comedians around that will make fun of Obama??
I think it was Todd Schnitt that pointed out the Porkulus Bill is paying the tab for these new Police Officers until the end of 2009, then Columbus has to pay for it from their own budget.
To quote another Ohioan, “Things that make you go HMMMM...”
0-pression math: 650,000 - 25 = problem solved, send our surplus $ to ACORN and Hamas.
Recession is when your neighbor loses his job.
Depression is when you lose yours..
And recovery is when Obama loses his.
At least I bet you don't have the same license plates that zer0 has on his "Beast". AC-666
@ 25 per week, it will take him 16,0000 weeks / 3077 months to make his goal.
Woooo-Wooooooo....that's only 256 years.
Way Cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!
