What Sarah should do
2/25/2009 | ventana

Posted on 02/25/2009 5:20:09 AM PST by ventana

Like kick the can, the media will play its usual noisy game today.

Obama scored, Obama won, poll numbers rising. The clatter will be deafening. But as the din subsides over the next few days, a sinking feeling in the pits of the stomaches of ordinary Americans will mirror the sentiment on Wall Street.

This is a carpe diem moment. This should be the moment Sarah Palin makes a self-directed foray into a forum of her own choosing.

She should boldly grab the spotlight, and, by using YouTube, address the American people. She can create her own bully pulpit.

Handlers may tell her to wait, but that would be a misstep. This is a watershed moment, and the American people want to hear from a leader who is commonsensical, who is no-nonsense. We want to hear from someone who has a vision for this country that is optimistic and unselfconsciously informed by a spirituality which is palpable.

Sarah has this in spades.

She should refuse to engage the media like she would Ebola.

But she should look us square in the eye and talk to us. A townhall forum would be ideal. Questions from the audience would create the sense that small town America is a partner with her in this conversation.

We realize she's not Condi Rice, or Henry Kissinger, or Hillary Clinton, or even Barak Obama.

That's not what we are looking for. It is exactly that polished and slick political type who will not resonate with responsible Americans right now. Responsible Americans, those who have to foot the bill, would like to hear from somebody a lot like them. An individual who shares their concerns and is able to express their concerns, an individual with a vision that seems a lot more patriotic and consistent with the Constitution for which many brave forefathers fought and died for, that is who American looks for now.

In fact it is Sarah, plain spoken and honest who should grab attention with a conversation absolutely free from the hyperbole of over promise and under deliver that so disgusts us.

Bobby Jindahl gave a pleasant speech last night; but it was not compelling. America needs and waits for a genuine conversation. So Sarah, step in to the spotlight.

We'd like to talk with you.

The media destroyed Sarah, I don't think she can mount a comeback, but we'll see.

It would have been a slamdunk if Palin had given the response to Zero. I agree with you completely. Starve off the media. We don’t need ‘em. Also don’t RELY on lib infested Youtube, but use it to spread the word. She should feature video responses to pressing issues on her SarahPAC website, directly speaking to the audience.

It depends on us to help her succeed. She can’t do it alone.

I like Sarah, but nationally, I think she’s damaged goods. I think the MSM effectively ruined her image with the casual voter, (the stupid masses).

It is exactly that polished and slick political type who will not resonate with responsible Americans right now.

I respectfully disagree..America now elects “American Idol” presidents..polished and slick is exactly what people are looking for while they push substance out of the way..

Although responsible Americans want substance, they’re outnumbered by the opposition who view the election process (nowadays) as a competition. The candidate can be slick, polished, photogenic and have the substance of a common variety garden slug and they’d win in a heartbeat (see Ears)..

IMHO..

Must we really keep asking Sarah to be the lamb led to slaughter?

That “damaged goods” snarky line is getting so tiring.

If you have a better candidate in mind (presuming you do, and that is your motivation) then suggest them.

Stop the whining about Sarah though.

Be up front and support someone. Or get out of the way.

I don’t think there is enough of us to do that.

I totally agree. Sarah Palin needs to step up and give the Democrats and Rhino Republicans her polite, down to earth in your face treatment on the issues. It would be knock it out of the park time.

So we should dump her, look for the next likeable conservative, watch him also get ruined by the MSM, dump him, look for the next... etc. etc.

This is an endless game unless we stand up and fight for true conservatives.

“Although responsible Americans want substance, they’re outnumbered by the opposition who view the election process (nowadays) as a competition.”

Nailed it.

Except the problem is it’s always been a competition.

Republicans for some reason, stopped treating it as such.

Most “republicans” now, are just plain chicken.

So they lose.

Actually, this would be a dumb thing for her to do. Right now, voters are more than in a mood to give Obama a chance to do what he wants. Remember, they voted him in by a reasonably healthy margin. They want him given a chance. Being the “No” person is dumb as dirt during a Presidential Honeymoon period. Voters expect you to pitch in and help.

Now, over the summer, when the news is slow, that’s when you start making big policy speeches, but ones from the heart. Get some input from Heritage and AEI. Propose a massive armament program: point out that that’s what put Americans back to work in 1940. Draw distincitions and make Obama fight you.

But being the Whack-A-Mole Governor now would be irritating to the voters. If she popped up and yakkity-yak-yakked whenever Obama said something, that would leave him with the strategic initiative and her marginalized.

Patience. Timing is everything. People in the Base don’t get this.

Best,

Chris

“I like Sarah, but nationally, I think she’s damaged goods.”

IMHO, EVERY conservative between now and ‘12 will be “damaged goods”. IOW, if a conservative shows a desire to run in ‘12, the media will immediately begin to tear them down, investigate their every move, point out all the bad and nothing good and intentionally, metaphorically speaking, drive them into the ground. Witness Jindal who is under intense fire for daring to look at what happens to his state AFTER the federal stimulus $ run out and as a result may turn down $ from this boondoggle called a stimulus package.

Same will happen to Sanford, Cantor, DeMint, etc...

I may sound pessimistic, but we need someone that can withstand the shots, from a media standpoint, and still remain standing..the question is, who will that person be..

You open with a whine, then tell me to quit whining, (which I wasn’t doing). You may want to look up irony?

The Sarah Palin supporters are starting to sound like the Ron Paul supporters. Clinging to a non-viable candidate. It makes us weaker, not stronger.
I don’t know who would be good on the national scene, but Obama would destroy Palin, (with a huge assist from the MSM).
I’m not bashing Palin. I’m not whining, (unlike some users). I’m just observing a mistake as it unfolds.

If you have another candidate whom you are carrying water for (you sound like that is your agenda) then share with readers who that is.

Otherwise, get out of the way.

Thank you.

She was definitely "Dan Quayled" by the media. If she wants a successful future in national politics she needs to reinvent her public persona despite the media.

She needs to pick one issue that will stay national, like energy, formulate a policy and get out in front on it.

Look how successful Al Gore has been with the global warming sham, and he is an idiot.
