It is exactly that polished and slick political type who will not resonate with responsible Americans right now.
I respectfully disagree..America now elects “American Idol” presidents..polished and slick is exactly what people are looking for while they push substance out of the way..
Although responsible Americans want substance, they’re outnumbered by the opposition who view the election process (nowadays) as a competition. The candidate can be slick, polished, photogenic and have the substance of a common variety garden slug and they’d win in a heartbeat (see Ears)..

Except the problem is it’s always been a competition.
Republicans for some reason, stopped treating it as such.
Most “republicans” now, are just plain chicken.
So they lose.
