Ammo flying off store shelves

TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

I think buying more guns and food and ammo is a really good idea. I think you might be an idiot if you don’t.

I live in Florida and have been waiting 4 months for my ccw perm
_____________
I read that they were backed up, believe it was like 95,000 backlog and they didn’t have the funds to process them. They gave them a million or more to help. They cost around 120. so don’t know why that doesn’t cover it? Probably a bunch of libs working in the state offices, hoping a ban will take place and they don’t have to do them. If they have 95,000 stacked up, and the price for each is 120., that’s over 11 million dollars. Makes no sense to me. I know people in FL that applied in October and November, still waiting. Some of their checks were cashed this month after sitting on some desk since October 2008. ridiculous!

Do yourself a favor though, try the g30sf on for size.

I've avoided .45s for years because I never found a frame that "fit" me and was comfortable. However that changed with the introduction of the SF.

My current "truck gun" is a G29. Love it. Fits like a glove and I can shoot a gnat off a fly's ass at 15yds with it. However, my dealer gave me a G21SF to try out. Man, what a difference! Perfect for me. I'm picking it up Thursday.

You need, at most, one gun and a couple boxes of ammo per capable household member.

I guess you never heard of PRACTICING.

By the way, I have never shot a .454 Casull, does it kick like a mule?

It's all subjective. A .454 has more felt recoil than, say, a .44 special, but for some either is just fine. I've had some shoot my .44 special and have decided that's too much when I consider the .44 special a very mild round.

Want a wild ride? Buy a .460 or .500 magnum.

I try to call and keep getting a busy signal.

Changed? Probably not, they just say they are swamped and are doing the best any govt. agency can do.

if they are going to get my gun it will be empty. Hopefully a few of them are down so the next guy has a better chance. I will not go without a fight - a gun fight.

Learn on a 9mm if you must start with a semiauto pistol. Your good shooting habits will be much easier to learn with a softer shooting 9mm. With HP ammo, 9mm is quite effective. It’s shortcoming is when it is applied to our military, and they must use full metal jacket (nonexpanding) ammo.

If you get a 9mm and practice a lot and want more, only then move on to a .40 or .45, when your good habits are established. If you start on a .45, you may learn a flinch, and be a rotten shot forever. A hit with a 9mm is 100X better than a miss from a .45.

The govt takes the money and puts it in to the general fund.
Regardless of which programs may or may NOT be making govt money they still put whatever they’d budgeted there for that agency.
Who’d of thought regular folks would want to try to legally protect themselves and their family?

Attended a gun show recently. I was simply amazed.

Almost all the ammo was depleted within a few hours....cases and cases of .223, 7.62, .40, you name it.

Arms were flying off the tables.

America....you make me proud.

I think you must live in a very sheltered place. In the last five years the NPNO housing has brought gangs to all neighborhoods in this area. One about 4 miles from me was a middle class mostly white as you can get five years ago. The only violence was an occasional domestic. Since then gangbangers have moved in. Now there are drugs and three shootings in the park NEXT to the elementary school. The cops are useless and the neighborhood has started an aggressive NW project. Even in my area which is a good drive form the city there has been a serious uptick in burglaries and now just last week a violent home invasion of an older single woman in broad daylight. This area NEVER had a crime problem before.

Our PD has had to increase and move sat offices to try and deal with the invasion of usually quite areas.

So you can think what you want but your case may be the exception not the rule.

Me I would rather have ammo to burn in five years than watch my wife get raped and killed while I have empty gun.

I notice in many of your other posts that you are fixated on Sept 2009 as the turn around. Even the Fed has backed off of that. I do not see it for at least two more years. AND you can check my older posts I called this recession on October 15, 2007 and went ALL cash then.

Personally, I do not recall giving you the right to say what I ‘need’ whether it be ammunition or anything else. If you have more delusions than just that of knowing what I ‘need’ in the way of ammunition, I suggest you get professional mental help assistance.

To keep it simple, “What a maroon”. (to quote that Oscar winning rabbit)

northisander, don’t let the aholes get you down

What rock did you climb out from under? You wanna start calling FReepers that you disagree with aholes, go look in a mirror jerk.

You buddy is trying to tell everyone here if they have more than two boxes of ammo, they're somehow hoarding and paranoid gun zealots who give other gun owners a bad name.

Enjoy your stay at FR, while it lasts.
