WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will allow tax breaks given to wealthier Americans under his predecessor, George W. Bush, to expire as scheduled rather than eliminate them sooner, an administration official said on Saturday.

Obama, who promised during his White House campaign to roll back tax cuts on people earning more than $250,000, also plans to boost tax collections from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013, the official said, confirming a Washington Post report on Obama's budget proposals for the 2010 fiscal year.

I've been putting that feeling to good use - stocking up on food, supplies, and precious metals (including lead). And getting an evacuation plan in order when the real violence starts in the city. Let that feeling help you to prepare.

It has been...I'm trying to do everything you have listed above. I'm waiting on my firearm permit, and thankfully I live out in the woodsy suburbs with well water and a cellar I've been slowly stocking up with canned and frozen goods. And I'm seriously planning a little garden come spring...not something I'd ever been interested in before, but it is now! Thanks for your reply...always like to know what other FReepers are doing.

Yo Diana,

Wisconsinites rock! Do you remember the percentage of people who ‘rose’ above the poverty level while he was in office? I want to say, 6.5 % which is great in light of 9/11 and Democrats who fought him on everything every step of the way.

It’s like a tragi-comedy right now. Everything the BO and dems are doing is antiethical to economic growth.

I am confused; this article says O'Bomber will increase taxes
A second administration official confirmed a Washington Post story that said Obama would propose boosting tax collection from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013,

Ya know, I’m really fed up that I worked to keep this socialist out of office yet he was elected anyway because so many self righteous fools sat on their asses on election day.

“depression is his goal and succession will be states’ reaction.”

For many reasons, succession is not a good idea.

The fact that American has a republican form of government benefits citizens because the nation, as well as every state, is throttled by the U.S. Constitution.

States are considerably better off remaining as part of a nation than they would be in going it alone.

As the parent of a Marine, you should get Kudos for helping your son out. Bless you!

My parents did what they could for me too.
Pitifully, I inherited their house, paid it off, met my hubby, sold his house and that house and bought a little 2000 sq ft place big enough for us.

Now no one will buy it in MI. We paid 160,000 and it’s worth 120,000. Two generations of house, down the drain. Thanks Barney Frank.

You said — “I have a great suspicion that you voted for Barack Obama. You do not criticize him at all but you always criticize those who criticize him.”

I’ve answered that question a long time ago and several times over again. It seems that anyone taking a rational standpoint on issues, instead of going “bananas” on everything... is supposedly for Obama... LOL..

For the record, once again (and if you look back you’ll find it, too, back in previous posts...). I campaigned against Obama and I’m on the record here as doing such. I did so with people around me where I’m living. I protested his refusal to produce documentation regarding the Constitutional requirements for office, but I lost that issue, as he won the election, unfortunately. I’m a registered Republican and have been for a very long time (very long...). I did not vote for Obama and really didn’t want to vote for McCain, but when Palin came on board, I was enthusiastic about her and at least there was one member of the Republican ticket that I could vote for, and did.

As I’ve said on several other posts and about different issues, people have to *get real* for what they are going to accomplish in politics. I’ve seen a bunch of people on the “Obama Derangement Syndrome” track and pursuing things that will never go anywhere and haven’t gone anywhere since long before the election (even though I was arguing the same way before the election). After the election, I saw that the voters spoke and they outvoted me.

In addition, I see that many post every crazy idea that they can come up with about Obama, and it doesn’t produce anything useful in terms of his policies and a reasoned opposition that will *result* in something — from the “loyal opposition” if you will.

We are the opposition and must be concerned with high priority items and not every single crazy idea that someone wants to spout off about. If one dilutes their “opposition” and provides the people in power with an easy way to “dismiss” comments from the “crazy talk” that goes on — then no one benefits, from the “opposition”. And that’s a lot of what I see going on.

So, I will argue against many kinds of crazy statements and “deranged” thinking and useless ideas — in place of getting things that will *accomplish* something.

One example of that (just to show what I’m talking about) is in Oklahoma a legislator has put through a bill requiring that all candidates show that they are qualified for office and prove it with a birth certificate (and that would include Obama, too). So, that’s a *useful* and concrete action that legislators can take to accomplish something.

And that’s the way the ball bounces...

Excellent! I'm afraid I can't think of anything else to do with that little feeling of despair/panic whatever we call it. I guess it won't go away and we'll have to live with it. It will keep us vigilant, though. I've also never been interested in gardening - and like you, will at least try it this year. You're lucky you have a cellar and are in the suburbs (or perhaps that's good planning on your part.)

Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
Thursday, November 13, 2008

Gerald Celente

The man who predicted the 1987 stock market crash and the fall of the Soviet Union is now forecasting revolution in America, food riots and tax rebellions - all within four years, while cautioning that putting food on the table will be a more pressing concern than buying Christmas gifts by 2012.

Gerald Celente, the CEO of Trends Research Institute, is renowned for his accuracy in predicting future world and economic events, which will send a chill down your spine considering what he told Fox News this week.

Celente says that by 2012 America will become an undeveloped nation, that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions, tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining food, not gifts.

“We’re going to see the end of the retail Christmas….we’re going to see a fundamental shift take place….putting food on the table is going to be more important that putting gifts under the Christmas tree,” said Celente, adding that the situation would be “worse than the great depression”.

“America’s going to go through a transition the likes of which no one is prepared for,” said Celente, noting that people’s refusal to acknowledge that America was even in a recession highlights how big a problem denial is in being ready for the true scale of the crisis.

Celente says that by 2012 America will become an undeveloped nation, that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions, tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining food, not gifts.

Celente, who successfully predicted the 1997 Asian Currency Crisis, the subprime mortgage collapse and the massive devaluation of the U.S. dollar, told UPI in November last year that the following year would be known as “The Panic of 2008,” adding that “giants (would) tumble to their deaths,” which is exactly what we have witnessed with the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and others. He also said that the dollar would eventually be devalued by as much as 90 per cent.

The consequence of what we have seen unfold this year would lead to a lowering in living standards, Celente predicted a year ago, which is also being borne out by plummeting retail sales figures.

The prospect of revolution was a concept echoed by a British Ministry of Defence report last year, which predicted that within 30 years, the growing gap between the super rich and the middle class, along with an urban underclass threatening social order would mean, “The world’s middle classes might unite, using access to knowledge, resources and skills to shape transnational processes in their own class interest,” and that, “The middle classes could become a revolutionary class.”

In a separate recent interview, Celente went further on the subject of revolution in America.

“There will be a revolution in this country,” he said. “It’s not going to come yet, but it’s going to come down the line and we’re going to see a third party and this was the catalyst for it: the takeover of Washington, D. C., in broad daylight by Wall Street in this bloodless coup. And it will happen as conditions continue to worsen.”

A d v e r t i s e m e n t

“The first thing to do is organize with tax revolts. That’s going to be the big one because people can’t afford to pay more school tax, property tax, any kind of tax. You’re going to start seeing those kinds of protests start to develop.”

“It’s going to be very bleak. Very sad. And there is going to be a lot of homeless, the likes of which we have never seen before. Tent cities are already sprouting up around the country and we’re going to see many more.”

“We’re going to start seeing huge areas of vacant real estate and squatters living in them as well. It’s going to be a picture the likes of which Americans are not going to be used to. It’s going to come as a shock and with it, there’s going to be a lot of crime. And the crime is going to be a lot worse than it was before because in the last 1929 Depression, people’s minds weren’t wrecked on all these modern drugs – over-the-counter drugs, or crystal meth or whatever it might be. So, you have a huge underclass of very desperate people with their minds chemically blown beyond anybody’s comprehension.”

The George Washington blog has compiled a list of quotes attesting to Celente’s accuracy as a trend forecaster.

“When CNN wants to know about the Top Trends, we ask Gerald Celente.”
— CNN Headline News

“A network of 25 experts whose range of specialties would rival many university faculties.”
— The Economist

“Gerald Celente has a knack for getting the zeitgeist right.”
— USA Today

“There’s not a better trend forecaster than Gerald Celente. The man knows what he’s talking about.”
- CNBC

“Those who take their predictions seriously … consider the Trends Research Institute.”
— The Wall Street Journal

“Gerald Celente is always ahead of the curve on trends and uncannily on the mark … he’s one of the most accurate forecasters around.”
— The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

“Mr. Celente tracks the world’s social, economic and business trends for corporate clients.”
— The New York Times

“Mr. Celente is a very intelligent guy. We are able to learn about trends from an authority.”
— 48 Hours, CBS News

“Gerald Celente has a solid track record. He has predicted everything from the 1987 stock market crash and the demise of the Soviet Union to green marketing and corporate downsizing.”
— The Detroit News

“Gerald Celente forecast the 1987 stock market crash, ‘green marketing,’ and the boom in gourmet coffees.”
— Chicago Tribune

“The Trends Research Institute is the Standard and Poors of Popular Culture.”
— The Los Angeles Times

“If Nostradamus were alive today, he’d have a hard time keeping up with Gerald Celente.”
— New York Post

So there you have it - hardly a nutjob conspiracy theorist blowhard now is he? The price of not heeding his warnings will be far greater than the cost of preparing for the future now. Storable food and gold are two good places to make a start.

CHUMP CHANGE!!!!!!!

Speaking about the so-called “stimulus” package, Obama has said:

“Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hardworking Americans,” Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address.
He said the Treasury Department has begun directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld from people’s paychecks in accordance with the new law, and that in six weeks, a typical family will start taking home at least $65 more every month.
Obama says his signature “Making Work Pay” tax break will affect 95 percent of working families.
The $400 credit for individuals is to be doled out through the rest of the year. Couples are slated to get up to $800. Most workers are to see about a $13 per week increase in their take-home pay. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.

ALL OF THE ABOVE IS CHUMP CHANGE, MORE THAN OFFSET BY ALLOWING BUSH’S TAX CUTS TO EXPIRE. A $65 per month cut for the proverbial “working families” (whatever that is suppose to mean) is about the price of a cheap bottle of wine for a Congressman dining in Georgetown tonight.

Once again, the market will correctly read all this smoke for what it is: a tax increase which will further depress the economy. Obama and his fellow travelers in Congress are repeating the horrible mistakes of FDR, which extended the depression for a decade. The market will Dive again this coming week. Obama and his fellow travelers are taking this country on a path to total disaster.

What we need fast are: 1) elimination of the federal income tax altogether, replacing it with a national sales tax; and 2) elimination of mark-to-market accounting, reverting back to historical cost accounting to help restore bank capital.

Just start moving your stuff in while he’s still there; that’s what I did, LOL!

Sonny is over here a few days a week; he does some work for Husband’s business. Whenever he’s here, I make SURE I show him the current sewing/craft project I’m working on, as well as give him a hug and tell him how PROUD I am of him, that he’s only 21 and already self-supporting, blah, blah, blah.

He just rolls his eyes. He KNOWS I’ve been jonesin’ for his room since he was about twelve, LOL! It’s got a south-west exposure, Birdseye Maple floors and is FILLED with gorgeous sunlight most of the day. I’m not stupid. If I could’ve had my OWN room all of these years, that’s the one I would’ve picked! ;)

Yep. But it’s oh-so-good for their end goal: Socialism.

I’ve pretty much dropped out of contributing to the economy (state and federal) in any way, shape or form. I’ve had it.

My goals for the next few years is to do even more with less. Because, less? We’ll have PLENTY of THAT!
