Indeed...Conservatives must make a stand, if the United States is to survive. There must be NO place for RINOs within the Republican Party. If there are no Republicans representing the Northeast, so be it. Its better that a DIM be elected than a RINO. Our new RNC chair must make it clear that the Party will no longer be supporting RINOs. You are on your own. No party money for reelection bids.

All he needs to do is win the Republican Primary. We’re talking about the Primary, not the General. Spector may very well be the strongest Republican for the General. But our goal is to get Spector out.

Oh, that does us worlds of good - replace Specter with a Dem. I thought the goal is to get to where we can filibuster Obama, Reid and Pelosi, not give the Dems a filibuster proof majority.

He’s well liked by the Conservative base and he’s well known and still young.

He got CREAMED in 2006. CREAMED. 59-41. AS. AN. INCUMBENT.

Gotta find someone new.

“We will get behind him! http://PrimaryChallenge.org";

Thanks The Mayor. I checked out your website. That’s fabulous. I also have a petition on a page at my site that might interest you. You can get there through http://www.GOPenema.com

God bless!

Oh, I thought the idea was to get rid of Spector. If the idea is to get a good R in there, then it might be sorta a waste.

I really did think the goal was to punish Spector. Teach wobbly R’s a lesson, that sort of thing.

It’s been quite a while since PA went for a R President. Bush in 1988 I think?

If the goal is to get 40 solid R’s in there, skip Spector, really. Look at states that voted for Bush in 2000 or 2004.
Are there any D senators up there in 2010?

The problem is, if the Dems had a completely filibuster-proof majority now, that porkulus bill would have been even worse. Be careful what you ask for here.

Bush and Santorum won't be around this time to save Specter's bacon the way they did in 2004 when Twoomey almost pulled off the upset. Let's find a solid center-right pro-life pubbie with the goal to win the entire thing, not just unseat Arlen.

I guess the question is whether Spector MUST GO or not.

If Spector MUST GO, someone who is clearly more popular with R Primary voters is the best bet. I think Santorum is that guy.

If the question is who might beat Spector yet have a better chance than Santorum at winning the General, it might be another guy. I’m not against Swann or Toomey or if Tom Ridge wanted to be Senator that’d be fine with me.

But if Spector MUST GO (the title of this post) Santorum is more likely than anyone to do it.

I’m not saying if Spector MUST GO, or Spector should go if we can find someone who we think can beat the D in the General.

Spector has been a pain in the ass for over 20 years now, though, which is something to consider.

Swann flubbed already - tried to jump right into the major leagues without working his way up and learning the political game. Ridge? I think he'd have a hard time in the primary, being pro-choice. Toomey? Perhaps. But I think he's going to have to come around on having SOME regulation of financial markets - he's pretty hard-core on free markets and that is gonna be a hard sell this time around.

Do we have anyone solid in the state legislature GOP leadership? Pro-gun, pro-life, pro fiscal discipline and reasonably clean?

The NRSC will back Specter if he decides to run again. They did so in 2004.

Their policy is that the incumbent GOP senator will always be backed over a primary challenger.

In the case of an open seat, they’ll try to remain neutral unless they feel one candidate is heads and shoulders above the other(s).

To Conservatives in PA (& elsewhere):

A post the other day said that if a strong conservative runs in the GOP primary, that the union Dem voters temporarily register GOP so they can vote rino in the prirmary.

To register as a candidate, sometimes you have to have been registered in that party ... maybe for a year or two. NOW, find a strong conservative to register Dem now, and run in the PA US Senate Dem primary. Maybe the Dem voters would not vote in the GOP primary.

The least you can do is spell the asshat’s name correctly in the title.

"It wasn’t just that the residence was a sham - it was, BUT he used it to bill the school district in which it was located for expensive cyber schools for all of his kids, when the family actually lived in suburban DC."

Yeah, it wasn't like that "expensive cyber school" didn't advertise every day on local P'burgh radio trying to drum up support for people to sign up their kids. Why would a US Senator representing PA think he was entitled to use it for his kids just because they were all PA residents living out-of-state?

Cyber schools are publicly funded Charter Schools and are no more expensive than the local public school. The $$ to run them is funneled through the local school district from PA State/local taxes. There is no tuition.

If his children were not legal residents of PA then his children were no eligible to attend. But the cost is irrelevant.

I'm not the one who said "expensive cyber school," and put it in quotation marks.

How could the duly elected Senator from the state of PA and his family not be legal residents of PA even if they were living in suburban D.C. while he was serving in the Senate? If his kids were not PA residents, then the wives and children of EVERY Senator and Representative who has a 2nd home within commuting distance of D.C. would no longer be residents of any of the states they represent.

He also refused to sign any autographs because he was afraid they'd end up on ebay.

He doesn't understand economics. If he signed lots of them, they'd be worthless on eBay. Surely we can get someone who understands economics.

I agree. Politics being the only reason it was even an issue. Big deal about nothing.

"Politics being the only reason it was even an issue."

True.

It is pitiful how many conservatives in PA fell for the daily trashing in their local newspaper and on their local TV news Santorum received every single day for 4 yrs. prior to his last race. It was a long term effort paid for by Soros et.al. through all kinds of media to completely destroy a good man that they considered dangerous to them.

Well, it was bad politics too, because it not only offended his fans and supporters, it made it look like he was more interested in preserving his own pocketbook than getting elected to serve the people of Pennsylvania.

Santorum would never challenge Specter in a primary as he is deferential to Specter.
