A few years back there was a Lieut. Governor named (Something) Schweiker who did a marvelous job working with miners who were trapped in the (Somethng) Creek mine.

I’ll support Lynn Swann. But I’d also support that Schweiker guy too. I think his dad was Governor of Pa about 20 years ago.

“Pardon the question, but what is the draw for Lynn Swann?”

He’s black. That is the current fashion.

One of the best Senators in the past decade is not electable

He did it to himself. He maintained basically a sham residence back in PA, did stupid things for his donors such as wanting the NWS abolished - displayed the petty GOP arrogance that was part of them getting trounced in 2006. The ONLY way the GOP can win in 2010 is to get clean, competent candidates along the lines of Tom Coburn - guys who slay sacred cows instead of ranching them.

How about Rick Santorum?

Rick Santorum supported Specter during his 2004 re-election campaign. No thanks.

Specter is a republican, I guess, in a deep blue state. He’s gone in a couple of years. Yet the two clowns I admittedly voted for are here for many years to come. Why won’t they switch parties already, I’ve had enough of this crap.

oh PULEEEZE. That’s a nit on a gnat’s ass. There are numerous Democrat members of congress whose ‘residency’ is much less real than his home, Wexler and others. Obama cut a deal with Tony Rezko for a sweetheart deal on a million-dollar house ... and gets to be President. Santorum deserved re-election but too many Republicans and conservatives got too complacent and greedy in demanding perfection - so you got a boob like Casey who is voting for fullbore socialism.

I’m sick and tired of running down our best guys. They remain human beings and imperfect and expecting perfection is a fine way to stay a permanent minority.

I voted for Swann when he ran for Gov.

Rendell was difficult to defeat because he was soundly supported in the Philly and Harrisburg areas. Swann’s campaign was pretty bad, too, though.

I think Swanny’s drive and heart is in it, but he has to surround himself with better people.

He’s much smarter than people give him credit for. I listened to him during media week at the Super Bowl and he delivered quite well.

Pardon me, but we got killed in 2006 partially because we went along with all the petty corrupt crap the GOP did.

They remain human beings and imperfect and expecting perfection is a fine way to stay a permanent minority

Accepting petty corruption is how we got to where we are today - when the petty crap is accepted, the pols move on to big-time corruption, as we have seen. We can only defeat the Dems if we run honest candidates who will tell the people, like Tom Coburn, that they will fight pork, sloth and petty corruption - and then deliver on that. People are STARVING for honesty. It's up to us to give it to them.

It all started with his “magic bullet” and now his worship of the magic man at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue will, with any luck, bring about his removal from the Senate.

Same with McQueeg. We need to be backing J.D. Hayworth in Ariz and get rid of the old fart McCain.

Santorum is my favorite senator. But I don’t think he’ll be reelected in PA. Too bad.

All he needs to do is win the Republican Primary. We’re talking about the Primary, not the General. Spector may very well be the strongest Republican for the General. But our goal is to get Spector out. The question is who is the strongest candidate to beat Spector in the primary. I think it’s Santorum. And yes, Santorum lost in 2006. Allen also lost in 2006. 2006 was a pretty bad year for Republicans.
2010 may be a good year for Republicans. If it is, Santorum would have a better chance in the General. He’s well liked by the Conservative base and he’s well known and still young.

It wasn’t just that the residence was a sham - it was, BUT he used it to bill the school district in which it was located for expensive cyber schools for all of his kids, when the family actually lived in suburban DC.
That speaks to the populace all across the state, and plenty of us were angered and disappointed.
I agree that he’s damaged goods, and wouldn’t win.
