WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle withdrew his nomination as President Barack Obama’s health secretary on Tuesday, saying he did not want to be a distraction after paying $140,000 in back taxes.

“This morning, Tom Daschle asked me to withdraw his nomination for secretary of health and human services,” Obama said in a statement. “I accept his decision with sadness and regret.”

Daschle, who had been tapped to lead a major reform of the costly U.S. healthcare system, said in a statement he was withdrawing because he did not want to be a distraction.

So why is it acceptable to have a tax cheat as Treasury Secratary but not HHS?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Tom Daschle has withdrawn his nomination to be Health and Human Services secretary. That’s according to a joint White House statement from President Barack Obama and his former nominee.

Obama said Tuesday he accepted the withdrawal “with sadness and regret.” Daschle has been battling for his nomination since it was disclosed he failed to pay more than $120,000 in taxes.

He said he’s withdrawing because he’s not a leader who has the full faith of Congress and will be a distraction.

Withdrawal isn't enough.

He needs to get the same treatment Al Capone did.

He pays the back taxes and then withdraws.

Do we have a deadbeat non-taxpayer collection method now in play? That Obama is one smart dude!!!

For one thing, Dashhole owed more than most people make in a year, and, I would guess, his problems probably went deeper than we know just now.

Breaking News 12:57 PM ET: Tom Daschle Withdraws as Nominee for Health and Human Services Secretary

What you’ve got to remember is that the radical *LEFT* hates Daschle ever since he became a lobbyist for hospitals against nationalized healthcare.

Thus, the weeping for this “blow to 0bama” will be short-lived at DailyKos.

To the tune of a Queen song, “Another one under the bus, hey hey.”

Somebody should do a parody song of Obama and his victims long those lines.
