Bill creates detention camps in U.S. for 'emergencies'
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | February 01, 2009 | Jerome R. Corsi

Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla., has introduced to the House of Representatives a new bill, H.R. 645, calling for the secretary of homeland security to establish no fewer than six national emergency centers for corralling civilians on military installations.

The proposed bill, which has received little mainstream media attention, appears designed to create the type of detention center that those concerned about use of the military in domestic affairs fear could be used as concentration camps for political dissidents, such as occurred in Nazi Germany.

The bill also appears to expand the president's emergency power, much as the executive order signed by President Bush on May 9, 2007, that – as WND reported – gave the president the authority to declare an emergency and take over the direction of all federal, state, local, territorial and tribal governments without even consulting Congress.

this is NOT satire.

No, it's WND. Satire is just as likely to be true, but at least it's funny.

Are you serious????? Read the bill in post #27. There is nothing funny about this legislation! It's meant to prevent any dissent against socialism!

Rep. Hastings has been trying for a few years.

"Under Representative Hastings' legislation, National Emergency Centers would be located on military bases with a preference wherever possible for those installations closed during the most recent Base Realignment and Closures (BRAC) Commission recommendations."

That was H.R. 1796 in 2007

.. and again this year. Two sources

Here

and here. H. R. 645 22 Jan. 2009

I guess it's all how you think these camps can be used. Ostensibly these are to have facilities ready in case of another Katrina. Hmm, I wonder if my freezing hillbilly kin would be allowed in -- even if they did not vote for Obama.

You said — “Reeducation camps...”

That’s simply *tinfoil* conspiracy talk and mental derangement...

For quite a while, now..., it’s been made absolutely clear by all in government that the next major terrorist attack is not a matter of *if* — but *when*. And so, when it does come, it could be a major nuclear or biological attack, with outbreaks of Islamic terrorism mixed in and around the country (in addition to the major attack).

I would *expect* to see a major metropolitan area *wiped out* by either a biological weapon or a nuclear weapon of some sort.

Therefore, the establishment of “National Emergency Centers to house an entire metropolitan area of refugees (yes, “refugees” in our country) will be absolutely necessary.

The wording of the bill...

SEC. 2. ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY CENTERS.

(a) In General- In accordance with the requirements of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall establish not fewer than 6 national emergency centers on military installations.

(b) Purpose of National Emergency Centers- The purpose of a national emergency center shall be to use existing infrastructure—
(1) to provide temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance to individuals and families dislocated due to an emergency or major disaster;

(2) to provide centralized locations for the purposes of training and ensuring the coordination of Federal, State, and local first responders;

(3) to provide centralized locations to improve the coordination of preparedness, response, and recovery efforts of government, private, and not-for-profit entities and faith-based organizations; and

(4) to meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

SEC. 3. DESIGNATION OF MILITARY INSTALLATIONS AS NATIONAL EMERGENCY CENTERS.

(a) In General- Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, shall designate not fewer than 6 military installations as sites for the establishment of national emergency centers.

(b) Minimum Requirements- A site designated as a national emergency center shall be—

(1) capable of meeting for an extended period of time the housing, health, transportation, education, public works, humanitarian and other transition needs of a large number of individuals affected by an emergency or major disaster;

(2) environmentally safe and shall not pose a health risk to individuals who may use the center;

(3) capable of being scaled up or down to accommodate major disaster preparedness and response drills, operations, and procedures;

(4) capable of housing existing permanent structures necessary to meet training and first responders coordination requirements during nondisaster periods;

(5) capable of hosting the infrastructure necessary to rapidly adjust to temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance needs;

(6) required to consist of a complete operations command center, including 2 state-of-the art command and control centers that will comprise a 24/7 operations watch center as follows:

(A) one of the command and control centers shall be in full ready mode; and

(B) the other shall be used daily for training; and

(7) easily accessible at all times and be able to facilitate handicapped and medical facilities, including during an emergency or major disaster.

You said — “No, but it’s written by Corsi, so it might as well be. I’ll wait for a more reliable source before I descend into my bunker.”

The building of these disaster centers is real — and — the “derangement” exhibited by some comments here are “real” [derangement] too.

It seems Free Republic has degenerated into a significant group of obsessive/compulsive people specializing in various “derangement syndromes”... centering on all sorts of “conspiracies”... LOL..

I posted the wording of the bill below, just above...

You said — “check out the HR bill it is for real and started by a Florida Democrat.”

And it’s something that is “long overdue” and should have been done in the Bush Administration. It’s just too bad it has taken so long to get this stuff in order...

“Japanese-American Internment Camps”

Also German-American and Italians-Americans were interned. Although not in as large numbers.

Interesting side note.

While liberal icons such as FDR, Earl Warren were enthusiastic supporter of denying Japanese-Americans of their civil rights, Arch villain of liberals and boogie man of the Left, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover was on notice that this was unnecessary and did not support interment.

You said — “Prepare to be incarcerated with registered sex offenders. At least until you’re led off to the gas chambers.”

That’s baloney. This is something that was *long overdue* and should have been in place a long time ago. The Bush Administration should have completed several of them, but didn’t even start. That’s a failure on their part...

This is for the coming major terrorist attack for one thing, and then secondly, it will also serve as a place where people could have gone to, when the New Orleans disaster happened. But, it wasn’t there at that time. Hopefully these centers will be in place and fully ready in short order.

The next major terrorist attack will most likely involve a major metro area being nuked or a biological weapon being dropped on it. The two major terrorist groups in the United States are Hezbollah and Hamas — both being funded by Iran...

You asked — “I like your take on it much better Star Traveler. Which branch abides by these laws again?”

If it’s a disaster of the size of a major terrorist attack, wiping out several major metropolitan areas, you could be talking about martial law. Then it would be FEMA operating under whatever those laws would be at the time.

Otherwise, in a disaster like that of New Orleans, again it would be FEMA, but under more limited powers than an overwhelming national disaster like a major terrorist attack.

I hope this will help folks here to understand what is happening and perhaps why Congressman Hastings has proposed this legislation.

Yesterday a blog called Market-ticker.org, written by Karl Denninger, posted the referenced article below (I’ve provided a pertinent excerpt). He predicts that our nation is on the edge of a complete financial collapse. You can bet that our government knows that too.

There are three generations of welfare families living in inner cities which have relied on that check in the mail, and they’ll be desperate when the money no longer comes to them. Our government is bankrupt - there is no money in its coffers and borrowing from abroad will not help.

Read this article and understand what is happening. Do not despair but be prepared.

“Here It Comes”, by Karl Denninger, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009
http://market-ticker.org/
(excerpt)
“Government must be prepared to provide the basic necessities of life for at least five to ten million Americans and possibly as many as fifty-million - one in six. As I have noted before this means barracks-style places to sleep, food, clothing and basic medical care. HUNGRY, HOMELESS AND UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE ARE DANGEROUS.”
