GOP defies Obama overtures (Obama starts to play hardball)

Pushing back against the unanimous House Republican vote against President Obama’s stimulus plan, the White House plans to release state-by-state job figures “so we can put a number on what folks voted for an against,” an administration aide said.

“It’s clear the Republicans who voted against the stimulus represent constituents who will be stunned to learn their member of Congress voted against [saving or] creating 4 million jobs,” the aide said.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the lawmakers will have to answer to their constituents.

“I do believe that there will be people in districts all over the country that will wonder why, when there’s a good bill to get the economy moving again, why we still seem to be playing political gotcha," Gibbs said.

And later today, MoveOn, Americans United for Change, AFSCME and SEIU will be announcing a new ad campaign targeting moderate Republican senators who might support the stimulus — Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Charles Grassley of Iowa.

The ad, which will run in the Washington market and in those states, consists of clips of the president talking about the stimulus, followed by the male voiceover, “Tell Congress to support the Obama plan for jobs, not the failed policies of the past.”

Letters on the screen say: “Tell Congress to support the Obama Plan.” In addition to the liberal-labor coalition’s ad campaign, the Laborers union, which represents construction workers, is airing ads aimed at Grassley, Sen Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and Sen. Jim Bunning (KY). The spots call on Congress to support the stimulus package.

That's right and this constituent thanks Boehner and Franks and then made a donation to the RNCC last night.

How about give us all 7 k. Dang, that would stimulate the freaking economy.

I would pay off a couple student loans, have more money, have more savings.....that would be stimulating.

Not money for crap like the bill includes.

I don’t get it...why do the Democrats NEED the republicans? I thought they had the votes needed all by themselves.

The Dems are caught red-handed holding the bag all by themselves on the rotten porkulus bill.

The way they are spinning it one would think the bill didn't pass because of Republicans. But this bill is so bad and the Dems know it they are deathly afraid some Americans might wake up and realize Dems are not interested in the least about improving our economy and are just interested in pushing their socialist agenda.

This economy is all yours Dems. What a shame we workers have to pay for your misguided moronic mistakes.

Grassley will crumble like a cheap deak of cards.

WE need to hold their feet to the fire.

Just voting “present” or opposing the lying phoney in the White House isn’t adequate. They have to take their case to the American people, DISSECT the “incentive” bill and explain why it is a phoney rip-off in terms the average voter can understand.

Didn't these groups all get money from the stimulus package?

Well, there you have it. Talk of bipartisanship is all a scam designed to weaken the Republican Party even more. If Republicans would have voted for this porkulus, the Dems still would have targeted them and blamed them for the predictable outcome.

Republicans who voted against this need to stand firm, do not apologize, and talk to your consituents and explain WHY you voted against this POS. On the other hand I am glad the left-wing kooks are doing our dirty work by getting rid of our RINO deadwood.

Also I’d like to add that I think this is bluffing from Obama to get the Senate Republicans to bend over.

“I read the article and McConnell seems to get it. The Republicans by all expectations should have just rolled over for Obama, but so far they’ve opposed his treasury sec and the bailout. They seem to have found their inner conservative. “

If these liberal groups have a 1-800- callin number, I’d like to use it. might as well use their dime to tell Congress to oppose pork boondoggle deficit spending.

I am calling the Senators to ask them to oppose the Democrat bill and support the Boehner alternative.

Better still. Point out that a 900 billion dollar pork fest when divided up by 111 million American households represents $82,000 per household. The GOPs then can ask their constituents how much of that $82K they received.

I’m becoming a victim of the LameStreetMedia. The way they’re reporting this Bill is a done deal.

My bad.

It’s all about the image of Republicans that they want to portray. They’re thinking about the Congressional elections in 2010. They’re hopin’ the bill won’t be proven to be a total failure until after 2010, and that they can knock out more Republicans and marginalize any Pubbies left in the running. It’s all about political power. Not about what’s good for the country.

This will backfire.

Now I can call these RINOs and tell them:

“Are you going to cave to leftwing unions or stand up for fiscal sanity?”
