Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., criticizes mainstream media for not reporting loads of pork in proposed legislation.
Is the new Obama administration taking cues from the Bush administration to get Congress to act? It certainly seemed that way to, South Carolinas junior Republican senator, Jim DeMint.
DeMint, speaking Jan. 27 at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., explained the Obama administration will create crisis and widespread panic just like its predecessor in order to get Congress to act expeditiously.
Ive been around long enough to know whenever someone tells me I have to make a decision right now, my response is no, DeMint said. That clears it up right away and I think more and more the Bush administration and now this administration knows that theyre not going to get a quick reaction out of Congress unless they create crisis and widespread panic. And thats going to be their M.O. to get Congress to act.
Another senator, James Inhofe, R-Okla., explained the Bush administration used a similar tactic, under the direction of former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, to get the $700-billion TARP bailout bill passed by Congress back on Oct. 4, 2008.
DeMint said some Republicans now regret they voted for the TARP package, even though there is no way to gauge what might have happened had it not been passed.

Did you forget the “r”?
Crisis and panic seem to be the stock in trade for Washington these days. Who can forget the horror stories about what would happen if we didn’t bail out the banks.
red
Thud would be an improvememt.
At least two Senators get it — Inhofe was disgusted with Bush using the tactic and will not be forgetting it anytime soon.
Sent my two Senators and my Congressman (waste of time) emails saying “Just Say NO!” In fact I asked the two Senators to “Just Say NO!” on anything coming out of the White House. With Inhofe and Coburn who seems to be waking up about Obama, probably a good bet for NO!
Since only a tiny fraction of it is expected to kick in within the next year....
WHERE'S THE FIRE?
“will create crisis and widespread panic just like its predecessor...”
We’re being played by both sides.
“he said that ‘there will be time to beat him up and a time for politics. He said I understand that and I will watch you on Fox News and feel bad about myself.’”
Yeah right .
Same “”Wag the Dog”” crap that the Clintonistas were famous for ........:o)
We have a serious economic problem and it’s business as usual for the democrats in congress. This is the democrats way of saying, “let them eat cake”.
The only reason Mr. 0bama wants Republican participation in his looting of the Treasury is so he can include them in the blame when his policies fail. Say NO, and let 0 fail on his own.
Anyone with any presidential ambition should vote ‘no’, even if they vote ‘yes’ later. That way, they can do like O’bysmal do.(This money is slated to buy loyalty to big government- not stimulate anything.)
Exactly! Just like ZERO learned well that if he was doing something that most wouldn’t like do it on Friday evening. That’s what he did the first week in office when he overturned the Bush Executive Order in order for US taxpayers to fund abortions overseas.
Wonder what this Friday will bring?
Anguish for us conservatives is a solid bet....
Stay safe !
That is exactly what I thought when this "crisis" and bailhandout began.
Hmm...
THRUD
THUDR
RTHUD
TRHUD
THRUD
Sorry, I don't get it.
WOW so how many times did Bush say things like....
This developing and unforeseen sectarian violence in Iraq if allowed to escalate is going to get more of our bravest men and women killed and therefore you know this is not the time for Politics, there will be time to beat me up for politics, I will read the NYT and watch ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and CNN and feel bad about myself.....
Ans: NEVER.
The first bailout proposal was to stabilize the banks, supposedly. I was half heartedly on board. Then there was all the posturing. Suspended campaigns, we won't agree blah, blah, blah. Then, voila!, a bailout loaded with pork and pet projects passes with no problem.
This bailout doesn't even try to pretend to be what it is supposed to be.
Anyone that I have the ability to vote for that supports this piece of skull duggery will not have my vote in 2010. And I intend to actively promote the most conservative candidate I can find running in the primary. This is probably a dream...but ya gotta have dreams.
(Yes, I have called, e-mailed and faxed my reps.)
Had it not been passed our grandchildren could have breathed a little easier under less debt.
All of this is so sickening. I've seriously conceded that Americans want socialism, so I'm not going to be a part of this monstrosity. I've already talked to people about moving to Costa Rica.
