Larry O’Donnell Dares Rush To Call For Abolition Of Medicare
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Claiming that Medicare is “pure socialism,” Larry O’Donnell has dared Rush Limbaugh to call for its abolition. The MSNBC political analyst and former of West Wing writer was David Shuster’s guest during MSNBC’s noon hour to discuss the flap that has arisen over Pres. Obama’s suggestion to Republican leaders that they not listen to Rush. For good measure, O’Donnell accused Rush of “lying” and suggested that Limbaugh’s audience is long in the tooth, claiming most of its members are on Medicare.

The left has been gagging for someone to have a go at Rush but in their wildest dreams they didn’t think Obama would take on the task himself with his lackeys following suit.

Liberals are a thick lot but will they ever stop to consider that their shiny new president is acting exactly like Richard Nixon by compiling - and even advertising - an enemies list?

My point is that programs that benefit people who have been paying taxes into the system should be last on the list, not first. It's like when governments, faced with a funding shortage, shut down the programs that benefit taxpayers like parks and libraries.

What I especially want to shut down is granting Social Security Disability to drug addicts and kids who deliberately act up in order to be classified "special ed"

NOTE:
They are demonizing conservative talk show hosts (Rush and others) now to soften us up for the Fairness Doctrine. Rush is public enemy number one. If they get him and demonize him with people - they have one.

yes I remember phonies side kick saying no money for white contractors.

Funny how the media as far as I know haven’t made a meal out of that statement and yet a certain republican said a word about a Indian following his speeches and he gets 5 days of headline news, actually more than 5 days.

I’ve told a bunch of people about that comment and not one of them had known about it.
It is up to us to get the message out now

The market will go up again. When it does, stocks are going to have been a real steal, right now.

o.k., Larry, please explain to the audience how Medicare is sustainable over the long haul and what financial impact funding it will have on my children.

Bad enough, we have North vs. South, Rich vs. Poor, Americans vs. Aliens, Black vs. White; now this clown has to start another war - old vs. not old.

Yeah, I'm on Medicare and Social Security. I also work 40 hours a week to pay my bills. I need Medicare because all the bloodsucking insurance companies want obscene amounts of money to cover NOTHING. I paid ( and still pay) into Social Security, so I've EARNED it back.

That's just what this country needs: a bunch of toothless, sagging breasted seniors going on a rampage. “Oh, the horror. This the worst catastrophe.”

The irony of this is that, of the four largest budget items in the federal budget, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Defense, there is a good likelihood that the first three are going to collapse on their own.

In truth, we only need national defense. The other three are just largesse.

But there is full collapse, and there is partial collapse.

Social Security was originally a good idea. Its purpose was to provide a retirement system just for minimum wage workers who had no other retirement. It had to be national, or else workers would be confined to just a single State.

It went wrong because people were added to it by socialists who wanted it expanded into a national retirement system. But that doesn’t mean it is dead as an idea, if returned to its original concept.

Under severe economic pressure, the government will have to require means testing for SS and Medicare. But the money owed people who would be impoverished without it should be paid. Yet everyone else should be paid *back*, not with cash, but with a slightly greater amount of tax exemption. So nobody really gets shafted in the deal.

Medicare needs a different approach, but the same principle applies.

Completely private health care, where doctors do not take insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, is so much cheaper to run because of less paperwork, that doctors can charge patients 50% less. This puts health care back into the realm of free enterprise that most people can afford.

Medicaid should be returned to the individual States. Health care for the poor must inherently be rationed. But that doesn’t mean that rationing is good for everybody. But it does mean you get what you pay for.

Why doesn't he acknowledge the fact that heath care costs $$ are out of control from

I’ll have him know that although I don’t listen everyday that as a listener I am about 20 years away from Medicare and don’t consider myself “long in the tooth”. In fct I’d say juding by his photo that he and hs fellow lefties are closer to that than I am!

I believe that was John O’Neill of our Swift Boats Heroes fame.
O’Donnell was foaming at the mouth by the end of his hissy fit.

Anyone that doubts we are in a civil war is not paying attention. This is LIBERAL vs CONSERVATIVE, not Dim vs GOP. The lines do not break along traditional political lines, although the breakdown may be similar.

The struggle is deeper than political.

Abortion and homosexuality are 2 of the most dominating issues that separate the people of our nation. There are others.

Government slavery is a major moral divide. Dependency upon government handouts is no different than plantation slavery. It is worse. It does not even exchange food and shelter for labor. It demeans and dispirits. It chains the recipient to a system that is inescapable.

The stakes in this cultural war cannot be greater. We are engaged in a moral struggle that will end in salvation or damnation for many individuals and for our nation.

Abolition of Medicare for those who have already paid for it would be armed robbery.

"O’Donnell accused Rush of “lying” and suggested that Limbaugh’s audience is long in the tooth, claiming most of its members are on Medicare."

Is O'Donnell such a moron that he doesn't realize Medicare is mandatory. He makes it sound like a person has a choice to take it or leave it. And on top of it, many of us have been paying Medicare taxes since 1966, but never had access to any of the benefits for almost 40 years. But even after paying into Medicare all those years, we are still required to pay almost $100 a month towards it. So what are we paying for if we paid in all those years?

Gigster - you are correct. I think it was John O’Neill. O’Donnel went insane. “Lying liars lying.” What a fool. he would not let O’Neill even speak.
