A Month in the Life of George W Bush (news and photos): January 2009
www.whitehouse.gov/news www.yahoo.com/news | 22nd January 2009 | Snugs

We have discussed both on the dose and privately via freepmail as to what we may do in the future of the dose.

It is suggested that a thread is posted where anyone can post photos or news of George W Bush and if you so wish any other member of his administration as to what they are doing or hope to do in the future and the idea is that this thread will cover January 2009 news and photos as well as being a recap of the last few days of the George W Bush Presidency plus events that took place a few hours afterwards in Texas and for the Vice President in Wyoming.

Enjoy the ongoing Sanity Island for January 2009

I JUST RECD THIS AS AN E-MAIL...THOUGHT IT WAS PARTICULARLY GOOD:

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, slate it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own ways.

Here is a model dissolution agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. .....

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU, too.

Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (you are however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens.

We'll keep the hot Alaskan Hockey Moms, greedy CEO's, and Rednecks.

We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran, Palestine, and France, and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or way of life are under assault, we'll provide them job security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian Values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain.

You can have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru Station Wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing Doctors (that is practicing, Howard Dean) who will follow to your turf (sic). We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.

We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and The National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach The World To Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty its best shot.

Since it often so offends you we'll keep our History, our Name, and our Flag.

Would you agree to this?

In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR on who will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

HEADS up ... lots of reading and watching. Found some great goodies:

MUST SEE -- VIDEO: Roland Betts,(very long-time buddy and probably the closest confidante of Pres. George W. Bush for the last 30 years) interviewed for an hour with Charlie Rose after the first Bush term ~~ many, many fascinating insights and gems

You'll be pulling out your hair, wanting to throw something at the obsessive, liberal, whining handwringing of Charlie Rose about Iraq, Iraq, Iraq .. is he (Bush) capable of admitting mistakes, is he intelligent, is he curious, blah, blah, blah ... BUT, it's well worth watching for the gems Roland Betts shares about our beloved Pres. Bush. Stay with it! .... LOL. Roland Betts' good character, intelligence and most of all .. his loyalty to GWB .. come shining through.

As Betts says, George W. Bush has many close friends, but I doubt many are as proven, long standing and influential as Roland Betts.

Of the many tidbits is one fleeting event he recounts about when his own father died. Mr. Betts had been a surrogate father to young college kid, George, as GHWB was heavily involved in his job and away from his son.

That story is further embellished here ... the whole article is a MUST read, and provides much rich fleshing out of their enduring and abiding friendship and close family relationship. How anyone could even hint that GWB had a racist bone in his body is sheer lunacy.

~~~
Hail The Conquering Hero (more background on the close Bush-Betts friendship)
Excerpt:
"Throughout Bush's adult life, Betts has been his mentor, his business partner, and his best friend.
At Yale, when Bush's father was preoccupied with the pressures of his political career, Roland's father stepped into the breach. "My father died in 1986," remembers Betts. "Right after he died, we all went out to Docks, the seafood restaurant. It was me, George, Lois, and our two girls.
George told a story about how after he graduated from Yale, he wrote my father a letter, thanking him for being his father-in-absentia. Nobody's closer to their father than George, but his father was down in Texas. Busy.
And he just started bawling. Of course, then I'm bawling, and my wife is bawling, and soon all five of us are bawling."
~~~

Another interesting account of the 40-year Bush-Betts friendship... For President and Close Friend, Forget the Politics

~~~~
When the Bushes visted the Betts in Jackson Hole, WY
Roland, Lois, Jessica Betts
Laura Bush, Roland and Lois Betts
Bushes, Betts at the Olympics
The Bush and Betts families (Betts is married to a black woman) couldn't be closer. As evidenced by just these few references, it's obvious that Roland and Lois Betts have been there for the Bushes, through it all, and you just know the much GWB and Laura treasure their lifelong loyalty and friendship. The next generation is continuing this close friendship forward.
The Betts' other daughter, Margaret (Maggie) and Barbara Bush
~~~~

HUGE, voluminous, historical tracing of GWB .. his family, his lifelong passion for baseball and surpringly, The Accidental Candidate

Ignore the predictable snarks ... this one is a really interesting and FANTASTIC biographical recounting of the life of George W. Bush. GREAT!

~~~
Large historical piece from the Yale Daily News, tracing GWB's time and life at Yale and forward: Part 1 of 3: Who is George W. Bush?"
Part 2 of 3: Bush shaped by family legacy
NOTE: I haven't found Part 3.....
~~~

How 'bout this for an oldie? Barbara, George HW and George W. Bush with the elder Bushes. Oh, those red cowboy boots.

~~~
Every day, every breaking news story, I miss him and them .......... more.
You can say this about Bush. He practices what he preaches and he doesn’t throw racism in your face like the Lefties do and he doesn’t practice it. He values his friends no matter what color they are.
Gee, I wonder how he does it? It’s simple. He sees past color. Duh.....
Obama and wife don’t.
Starwise, WOW, WOW,WOW!!!!! What great info....thank you, SO MUCH, for sharing this. I’ve npt heard of Roland Bett’s before this. I’m so happy that our dear W has such a good and loyal friend. And, it’s great that the friendship has passed to Barbara and one of Mr. Bett’s daughters.
Thanks for the post, Star. This is wonderful. I, too, miss W and Laura ....and, it’s only 2 weeks into the new Admin....4 years seems like an eternity.
Hi, Cubby,
Typing this again now as I deleted the last note...
How are things your way?
I’m on line to thank jtill for a contribution to the Valentine packages I’m sending out to Afghanistan tomorrow.
I’ve a rib roast in the oven and soon to put on the asparagus for my husband’s birthday. Also made him a chocolate cake with fudge icing last night.
He’s guessing I have a basketball in the huge package I wrapped for him, but it is really two down pillows for helping him sleep better with his arthritic neck.
Gotta run. Have a lot of packing to do late tonight. I’m hip deep in Valentine chocolates, blueberry cereal bars and hot chocolate mix...etc.
Cheers!
Patty
PattyRuth! Thanks for the note. The Dose seemed to be our gathering room, and I miss it. I thought perhaps we should post a pic of O and throw shoes (verbal shoes) at him - just for fun.
Guess not...
Happy Birthday to the hubby! Down pillows will definately make him happy. Thank you for being so faithful to the troops. You amaze me.
As for me, I’m doing ok. I have heard others on this site talk about depression over O’s victory, and realized at some point that I am too. I tried to be brave, but now feel sorrow and loss. Thanks again for listening.
Cub
Snugs, haven’t seen you around for a while, and was just wondering how your dad is progressing. I pray that he is
gaining strength so he can go home to recuperate.
I know you must be worn out all the time. Prayers for your
strength too.
