President Obama placed the Middle East at the forefront of his first hours in office yesterday as he sought to make good on his promise of ushering in a new era of peace.
In a flurry of telephone calls from the Oval Office, he reached out to leaders in the region and vowed to engage immediately in pursuit of a permanent Arab-Israeli settlement.
The spokesman for President Abbas revealed that Mr Obama had told the Palestinian leader that their conversation was his first with a foreign statesman since taking office. Mr Obama also spoke to President Mubarak of Egypt, Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, and King Abdullah of Jordan.

Al-Sadr was his first TEXT message on that blackberry he couldn't live without.
"Moq, how R U? WH is cool! ABT2 pull out Iraq. UR in charge, LOL. L8R, the 1."
Obama now is uttering some platitudes that appeal to middle class American values, but there are already signs that such an appeal is merely a stunt out of the Alinsky playbook, "Rules for Radicals."
To add insult to injury, O is appointing George Mitchell - who is of Arab ancestry and cultural background and who has had friendly relationships with Arab interest groups - as his Middle East “peace” envoy.
And he’s just getting started. We are so...
Israel didn't need another "clear signal." It had already had enough of them. Any research into O's background and friends would have been sufficient.
Israel's withdrawal from Gaza on the eve of the coronation was not coincidental timing.

Ain’t it the truth, allahu fubar!
Thank you Yehuda. The photos did give cause for concern. He’s a real problem, no doubt.
I found it curious Israel agreed to the withdrawal on the eve of the coronation also.

“Obama, Oslo Reactionary”

SNIPPET: “It will be the policy of my administration to actively and aggressively seek a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as between Israel and its Arab neighbors, President Obama said last week.
He also remarked: Just as the terror of rocket fire aimed at innocent Israelis is intolerable, so, too, is a future without hope for the Palestinians.
A day earlier Obama had made his first phone call as president to President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority. And on Wednesday this week, his new-old Middle East envoy George Mitchell is already due here to meet with Israeli and PA leaders.
In other words, Obama means business. Yet each of his above-quoted statements has something fundamentally wrong with it.”
For great justice.
