Al Qaeda terrorists have been left fearing the Black Death plague after it wiped out at least 40 insurgents at an Algerian training camp, it was reported today. The horror disease, which killed 25 million people in medieval Europe, is understood to have been found in a militants body dumped at a roadside. Terror group AQLIM (al Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb) was forced to turn its shelter in the Yakouren forests into mass graves and flee, it has been claimed.
Now al Qaeda chiefs are said to fear the plague has been passed into other cells - and possibly Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Many insurgents may choose to surrender for treatment rather than die a horrible death. This is the deadliest weapon yet in the war against terror, a security source told The Sun: Most of the terrorists do not have the basic medical supplies needed to treat the disease. It spreads quickly and kills within hours. This will be really worrying al-Qaeda.

I know that airplane food is pretty bad, but even so I'd expect that your average flea could probably survive a flight, even if there was a stopover or two along the way.
“**So now we know for sure that theyre playing with some pretty potent bio stuff???**”
Kills within hours? Sounds like botulinium to me. Hope it kills them all.. painfully.
“The epidemiologists are probably jumping on top of this one since the implication is there is now a very resilient flea that can make it from Afghanistan to North Africa, and then spread the infection to local fleas.”
There’s the reason we need to stop importing those creatures. And I don’t mean the fleas, either.
” No, this wasnt a bioweapon. These terrorists are living in very remote areas infested with rodents, the carriers of plague. “
And the source of your inside information is...??
With the amount of information given in yesterday’s Sun article, and/or today’s Guardian rehash (granted - not real good sources, either of ‘em) your pontifications-from-on-high are just as much idle speculation as anyone else’s...
There just isn’t enough information available to draw any conclusions......
The Destruction of Sennacherib
The Assyrian came down like the wolf on the fold,
And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold;
And the sheen of their spears was like stars on the sea,
When the blue wave rolls nightly on deep Galilee.
Like the leaves of the forest when Summer is green,
That host with their banners at sunset were seen:
Like the leaves of the forest when Autumn hath blown,
That host on the morrow lay withered and strown.
For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed;
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!
And there lay the steed with his nostril all wide,
But through it there rolled not the breath of his pride;
And the foam of his gasping lay white on the turf,
And cold as the spray of the rock-beating surf.
And there lay the rider distorted and pale,
With the dew on his brow, and the rust on his mail:
And the tents were all silent, the banners alone,
The lances unlifted, the trumpet unblown.
And the widows of Ashur are loud in their wail,
And the idols are broke in the temple of Baal;
And the might of the Gentile, unsmote by the sword,
Hath melted like snow in the glance of the Lord!
Lord Byron, 1815
Utah is a Western state, not midwestern. And because plague is endemic in western rodent populations like rats, gophers and prairie dogs as well as bats, closing the border is a moot point. There are other good reasons for border control, plague is pretty low on the list.
An widespread outbreak in the US is unlikely because we control rats and fleas, we bathe, we launder our clothes and bedding. We have much higher general health and nutrition.
I suspect that these AQ terrorists were a bunch of dirty malnurished men living in caves and cohabiting with rats, bats and fleas. Which is pretty much the best way to catch it. They should have done their laundry. ROFL.
However, there is more than justifiable reason for concern. These nasty little pests are known for their ability to make lemonade out of lemons, and in that I see the potential for them to take advantage of the windfall opportunity. . . . I will not elaborate, but it is no longer science or technology but willingness that. . . .
Never mind. ;)
It just “showed up”, huh?
My inside information is this: plague exists in nature, people get infected with it all the time, and anyone who goes into wild areas with lots of rodents is taking a risk. Doesn’t matter whether that’s in eastern Oregon, Nevada’s high desert, or the mountains of Algeria. It is far more likely to have been a situational infection, which I’ve said happens frequently, rather than a bioweapon.
Not as dramatic, but oh well.
If you suspect it’s a bioweapon, who might you think daringly placed it in the middle of nowhere?
With this development, they'll have to increase their disability insurance benefit to $0.05 / day.
yep.rolling your turds into little balls will get you into trouble.
” If you suspect its a bioweapon, “
If you’d actually read all the way through my post, you would have found this:
” There just isnt enough information available to draw any conclusions...... “
I’m not saying that you’re wrong, necessarily — I simply don’t see enough hard information to confirm or rule out any possibility at this point
Cats catching ground squirrels too. Filthy beasts, I shoot them when I have the chance.
I agree with you. They got it because of where and how they lived. What worries me is what they may choose to do with this “opportunity” created by that nastiest of bitches, Ma Nature.
The cats or the squirrels?
cats?? You shoot cats?? Don’t tell Garfield......
Not the cats, Slings and Arrows would never ping me again if I did that.
