foreigners owning US media: major national security threat

more powerful than owning military stocks

most MSM is already owned by US enemies IMO, via shell companies, investment trusts.

wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the PLA is, via a convoluted trail, a major owner of US media

It the spirit of liberalism and spreading the wealth around, MoDo and the gang should forgo their pensions and stock options.

It's the only fair thing to do, isn't it?

"The Times Co. has about $46 million in cash and $1.1 billion in debt as of the end of September. It has a $400 million credit facility that expires in May, $250 million in notes due in 2010 and another $400 million credit facility due in 2011."

What a way to run a business into the ground Pinch. See what your liberal bias has brought you. Your downfall.

They also said they are looking to raise up to $225 million from a sale-leaseback of its share of its headquarters building and considering other financing options including revolvers...

And if he buys the preferred stock, I have a great bridge down the street from the NYT which could make the same tidy profit and has the same voting rights.

OK, here's a quick 'financial analysis for dummies' style summary:

The Times Co. has about $46 million in cash and $1.1 billion in debt

Pretend I'm your neighbor. I have $460 in the bank, I owe $11,000 in credit card debt, every month I continue to earn less and spend more $$$ than I earn, and in the next 2 years, I also have to pay off 3 loan sharks an additional $10,000...in full.

Further perspective, we live in Silicon Valley and the business I own sells typewriters.

Would you invest in my company and loan me money? LOL...

There is nothing more dangerous than a rich liberal with power and the goal to control other people.

Their personal greed combined with their belief they have a right to control other’s actions and movements because they care more, know more, and deserve more than the rest of us are the ingredients for their ultimate demise and failure. Unfortunately we have allowed them that position either by electing them to represent us or by buying their product.

New York Times could have made choices about 20 years ago to be what it was first intended to be, the distributer of truth based on the gathering and reporting of facts to allow customers the ability to evaluate these facts and form their own decision.

They have gone from that to a daily distributor of propoganda for the sole purpose of changing policy, opinion and furthering their political agenda.

They have become nothing but a daily advertisment for the Democratic party and every tin horn dictator in the world.

Carlos Slim is rich because he’s a crook. He’s a terrible investor. Maybe he should have a talk with Sam Zell before investing in a paper.

Check this out....Mexico is falling apart and Calderone is going to build their biggest resort ever....right in the middle of the war....I wonder how much of our 1.5 billion is going into this fiasco?

PUBLIC-PRIVATE VENTURE: Mexico plans $6B resort on the Pacific

The Los Angeles Times
January 18, 2009

It would be one of the most audacious tourism projects in Mexican history. More than 33,000 hotel rooms. An expanse twice that of Cancún. Nearly $6 billion in investment.

The giant resort would be built on Mexico’s Pacific coast, about 50 miles south of Mazatlán.

In September, Mexican president Felipe Calderón announced plans for the public-backed project. Still unnamed, it is the largest tourist effort since the government helped build resorts in Cancún, Ixtapa and Los Cabos more than two decades ago, he said.

Mexican officials have yet to discuss another possible drawback: The proposed site is in the state of Sinaloa, one of the country’s most violent corners, where the dominant drug-trafficking alliance has split into feuding armies. As a result, Sinaloa has almost daily shootouts and one of the highest death tolls in Mexico. The violence has at times spilled into Mazatlán.[snip]

Since Carlos is rich in a socialist economy, where grtaft and 10 families rule the market, he has never had to make real business decisions in a real market economy...wait a minute I think he bought and closed CompUSA. I hope his magic touch in business helps the Times to reach the heights achieved by the restored Carlos Slim run CompUSA.
