SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - December 8, 2008 (OWSweather.com) Rare 50 year Arctic Blast Sets Sights On Southern California.
With a week away, and a sure sign of things to come, OWSweather.com is making preparations on the server to handle the traffic from this next event. UJEAS is in line with the majority if not all the other models in keeping a near historical arctic air mass into the Southern California region.
With a warm November, Southern California is finally ready for cold storms to make their way in. Resort level snow will be likely next week, and in pretty hefty amounts if things stay on track. OWSweather.com Meteorologist Kevin Martin predicts a 50 year event. While Martin is usually conservative on these events, the pattern highly favors it.
"We are in a pre-1950 type pattern, "said Martin. "We know we are due for a winter storm sometime this year. The type we may be dealing with will be ranked up there with the known years before 1950, which set record low daytime temperatures into the forecast region. With this, may come low elevation snow."

It’s a real mystery in my neighborhood how some will have extensive freeze damage and others none, with similar construction. One old house with lousy floor insulation doesn’t get freeze damage I guess because the heat manages to leak down to the pipes enough to keep them thawed. Leaving a faucet dribble definitely helps except maybe areas at the dead end of a pipe (like an outdoor spigot).
Yay! Bring it on!
No problem!
I wasn’t pickin on ya, just wanted to alert everyone.
I just got a propane refill also. I imagine it was a little less expensive than the last one (I hope).
Oh my! Where’d I put those long pants?
and politicians were always spewing hot air!
Since 1 Oct we have hit about 19 a couple times momentarily. The rest of the time it has been bouncing around 10 to -20, and -30 in selected areas. It's -12 right now, but it doesn't feel a degree below -5.
Sorry homie, but GW is here to stay regardless of all the contradictory evidence that is coming out on a daily basis.
There has been too much $$$$ invested in this hoax as evidenced in all the comercials citing " green this, green that" and the news articles constantly perpetrating this bogus crap. And lets not forget about the constant indoctrination of your kids in their schools.
I am not very optimistic that this GW propaganda can ever be reversed...........
Yeah ES I hear about that on local news this afternoon
Well I going bundle up
Nnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
<>< watching.....
"It's going to get worse before it gets better" . . sort of like "I was for it before I was against it."
...I was being facetious.
As long as you’re on the right side of the grass, you’re never too old.
One might recall the Great Pasadena Blizzard of 1949, in which parts of the Southland were buried under four inches of snow.
One scientist on the tube an hour or so ago was stating we were in for a 15 to 40 year cold cycle. That sure must sadden the woe is me global worming crowd.
“I lived in Los Angeles when it snowed in the 40s. Just about shut the city down. Just a dusting but everyone freeked out.”
That was 1949 and in the Silverlake/Los Feliz area we had 8 inches and it didn’t melt off until the day after.
Everybody's overhead water pipes froze, busted and wrecked their houses. This looks like it could be a repeater!!!
It snowed in La Crescenta on December 6, 1978. Saw it with my own eyes.
