Durham police conducting internal investigation; chief says it wasn't a slur

DURHAM - Derogatory remarks toward President-elect Barack Obama made on a social networking Web site are now the subject of an internal police investigation. A police department employee claims the statements were made on the MySpace pages of two Durham officers.
"There's no exact words that were said," said Police Chief Jose L. Lopez Sr. in a telephone interview Wednesday from San Diego, where he is attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. "It wasn't a racial slur, but we're still investigating it."....................

apparently the definition of THREATS has expanded considerably to include making govt officials (next- private citizens???) at any level (law enforcement?) reportable and given punishment if they make remarks (internet chatter) even in the privacy of their homes, that give OFFENSE or THE PERCEPTION OF OFFENSE

Senior defensive end Brian Orakpo said he considered the dismissal “appropriate.’’
“I thought the coaches did a good job on handling the situation,’’ Orakpo said. “My prayers are for him, but we’ve got to move on. Guys got to make better decisions for their future.’’
Orakpo said players should know their personal Web pages such as MySpace and Facebook can be sources of controversy.
“With the way the media and the Internet is evolving, everything you say can get you in trouble,’’ Orakpo said.

Thank goodness they’ve solved all the real crimes and have the spare resources to check out the rumor of a possible inflection that wasn’t a racial slur but might have been construed as possibly inferring a less-than-favorable impression of Barackus Maximus.
No...I refused to watch it, but caught the tail end of it on a replay later that same night. I did watch his moonbat supporters at the dem convention though and totally agree with your assessment.
