"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."
Executive orders "have the power of law and they can cover just about anything," Tobias said in a telephone interview.
On drilling, the federal Bureau of Land Management is opening about 360,000 acres of public land in Utah to oil and gas drilling. Bush administration officials argue that the drilling will not harm sensitive areas; environmentalists oppose it.
"They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah," Podesta said. "I think that's a mistake."

Though I think that late term abortion is a travesty and I am totally pro life .. again ... I believe that there are much more important fish to fry that expending energy on what I consider to be a lower priority issue than preventing CW2 or WW4. If you don’t ... there is no point in continuing our conversation

Hell, who needs a frontal lobotomy, when you can be Obamatized for free??
I said when that thing was passed, we didn't want to give powers to President Bush that we wouldn't want Clinton - or worse - to have.
oops.....”we will” not will
the time to b*tch about this was the whole gaggle of presidential authorizations under Bush which were every bit as much infringements on the liberty of the nation, and you didn’t hear a peep.....
Now we have a “bad” guy in there, and you folks who...., I dunno, I guess you assumed we would have a Republican pres forever, you are going to have a chance to see what us wack jobs screaming about personal liberty were whining about.
They way to preserve liberty is not to “put good guys in office”- although that is important. It is to restrict the power of the federal government to “do good” by forcing it to do as little as possible, or if you get real lucky, forcing it to act within the bounds of the constitution.
You can’t do that when you have social conservatives lusting for that fed power to start pulling them levers for the sake of godliness, though.
But can he write Executive Orders that transcend the Constitution?????
The bought a slick package. They are about to discover the box is empty.
Bush did. Why should Obama be different?
What orders did Bush write?
What Constitutional freedom have been taken?
I absolutely did NOT make it, and I WILL NOT lie in it! Most of us aren't willing to just roll over and die.
Abuses according to the party out of power. LOL Come on, get real. Here's a short list of recent EO`s. GW Bush 268, so far Clinton 363 G. Bush 165 Reagan 380 Carter 319 Ford 168 Nixon 345 Johnson 323 Kennedy 213 Eisenhower 481 Truman 893 FD Roosevelt 3,466
When it was Bush issuing executive orders, the media and the Dems spread alarm and warned about the dangers of executive power. I guess those days are over.
Gas ain’t going to be cheap for long. Obama is going to do everything he can to make sure that we are paying $7/gal within a year.
From a strategic (political) point of view. You attack the Obama with your strengths. The late term abortion is one of the strengths that we have that the majority of the public agrees with. It makes him look less like a Messiah and more like the devil. Old saying :You go with your strengths.” This may be one of the few things that we can knock this guy off his swagger. Right now we don't have a lot. This is his very first test. I say we meet him head on. This will weaken him. A War is won with many small battles.
Uh, too late, apparently! Look at what you just wrote.
According to the 2a, you already have a permit.
If you have to ask now, then you've already surrendered that right.
